Presentation Day - Congratulations to all on a wonderful Presentation Day. We braved the heat in both ceremonies and I am thrilled to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our exceptional students for their outstanding achievements in 2023. The dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work exhibited by all our students this year has been truly commendable. As we celebrated achievements and milestones, it was evident that our students have not only embraced their learning but have also developed a strong sense of school and community spirit. I am immensely proud of their accomplishments and the positive spirit they bring to our school community. Thank you to our wonderful teachers, staff, and parents for their unwavering support. As I said in my speech, let us all continue to nurture this spirit of collaboration and pride that makes Mudgee PS such a special place to come and learn. Congratulations once again! Captains Elections - At Presentation Day, I was also incredibly delighted to announce our newly appointed school captains for the upcoming academic year. Congratulations to Isabella Turnbull and Max Murnane on being announced as captains; as well as Grace Bungate and Zean Villamer as vice-captains. I have full confidence in their ability to inspire and guide our school community.
I also want to extend heartfelt congratulations to all the nominees who participated in the selection process. Each one of you demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities, dedication, and a genuine commitment to our school. While only a few may wear the badge, please know that your efforts have not gone unnoticed. Remember, leadership is not a title, it is a behaviour and a characteristic. Your passion and willingness to contribute to our school community are truly commendable.
Let us celebrate the achievements of our newly appointed captains while acknowledging the outstanding qualities of all the nominees. I am confident that, together, we will continue to foster a positive and supportive environment for growth and excellence.
Staff and Classes for 2024 - We are working through many different models for classes for 2024. Theoretically, we have the entitlement for 20 mainstream classes; and 7 support classes; however, next year we are aiming to operate 21 mainstream classes and fund the additional class out of our school funds. This will avoid many cross overs of stages, as our 3-6 teachers embark on the implementation of a new English and Mathematics Syllabus. We are still finalising teacher positions for next year; however, it is anticipated that all students will get to meet their new teacher for 2024 on Friday 15 December. Whilst we always endeavour to finalise these decisions, this year, they are subject to possible change due to fluctuations in enrolments over the holiday period and or movements of staff over this time of year as well.
The executive team will have some slight changes to 2024. Mr Grant Hough has been appointed as a permanent Assistant Principal which is fabulous news for our school and community - Congratulations Mr Hough. Mrs Tiffen will return to the Deputy Inclusion and Support Role, and Kylie Duffy will return to her substantive Assistant Principal Inclusion and Support position. Jen O'Brien also will return to her fulltime Assistant Principal Position.
We as a school will continue to run a Second Deputy Principal Position. Mrs Liesel Meers will continue in that role in Term 1; and then Mrs George will relieve in that role from Terms 2-4. As Mrs George only works 4 days per week; Mrs Nicholls will continue to relieve as Assistant Principal Stage 1 on a Friday in Term 1.
Mrs Caligari will remain releiving Assistant Principal for Early Stage 1.
Roger Wotton & Kevin Pye Public Speaking - Last Thursday MPS hosted the annual public speaking competition for Stage 2 and Stage 3 students.
In the Stage 2 competition the winner was Bill Peake from CVPS. Two students from MPS: Grace and Lilah Rayner, were awarded Highly Commended and received high praise from the adjudicators.
In the Stage 3 competition, Charlie French was declared the winner and will now have his name engraved on the Roger Wotton Public Speaking shield that has recognised winners for over 30 years! Congratulations to Charlie who has displayed outstanding public speaking skills over the past four years. Three students from MPS were awarded Highly Commended: Chloe Clarkson, Lucia Clarkson and Jake Colley. These students presented excellent speeches, highlighting the depth of talent we have at MPS.
Mrs B also congratulated the large number of students who prepared and presented a speech to their class as this demonstrates the enthusiastic approach both, students and teachers have towards public speaking at MPS.
PBL Assembly - Our Term 4 PBL Assembly will take place on Wednesday morning. We have an abundance of awards to give out which is super good news. Primary 3-6 Assembly will begin at 9:30; and Infants K-2 Assembly will begin at 10:30. We ask that parents arriving for the K-2 assembly do not enter the hall until the 3-6 assembly has finished as we will be keeping the doors closed to try and keep the hall cool.
Student Leavers - A final friendly reminder.....Are you leaving Mudgee? Please inform your child's teacher or the school office staff if your child will be leaving MPS this year. This information is needed as soon as possible to prepare for planning for 2024.
Class Parties - Class parties will generally take place on the last day of school in the middle session. The P&C has kindly donated goody bags for the party, and Tracey from the canteen has organised an ice block for everyone. We will provide some lunch for the students which will generally be pizza or hot chips (Different for each class). Therefore, students will not need lunch packed on the last day of school. Students are welcome to wear Christmas clothes on the day.
Year 6 Archway - Year 6 will have their formal Farewell event on Thursday evening here at Mudgee PS. On the last day of school we will all say farewell to our Year 6 students with an archway that will start from the Year 6 classrooms and finish on the basketball court. Any students who are leaving Mudgee PS this year are also welcome to walk down the archway. Parents are most welcome to attend this event.
Kindergarten Graduation Assembly -Just a friendly reminder to our Kindergarten families, you are welcome to join us in the hall next Tuesday afternoon for some Christmas singing and see your child receive their Kindergarten Graduation certificate. I am looking forward to this wonderful celebration.
Calendar - Please see the infographic below for events coming up next week as well as some of the key dates for 2024.
I will sign out with a video message next week but for those who don't get to view it, I would just like to say thank you! Thank you for your support, encouragement and most importantly for entrusting us with the care of your children in 2023. We feel very privileged to have that responsibility. To those moving on from Mudgee PS or have their youngest off to high school, an extra special thanks to you. We are looking forward to working with everyone again in 2024. Merry Christmas to all if I don't catch you at some stage next week.

Is your child eligible for free bus travel to and from school?
All Ogden’s Coaches bus passes will be distributed to eligible students via mail early next year for most bus routes in Gulgong and Mudgee (except Botobolar and Cudgegong which is serviced by Booth’s Bus Service). If your child is enrolled in a local school, please note the following:
Students going into Kindergarten, Year 3 and Year 7 must apply for a new pass.
If you have moved address or schools you must ‘update existing details’
If you are unsure whether or not your child has a current bus pass, please contact our office on 6372
To travel on our bus service, students MUST present their bus pass to the Driver morning and afternoon. If they are ineligible or do not have a pass they can pay a fare or by purchasing a book of 10 tickets, a Term Pass or Annual Pass from our office.
Apply for student bus passes & update details via our website ogdenscoaches.com.au
Select ‘Schools’ tab in top header then select either ‘Apply for a New Pass’ or ‘Update Existing Details’. Fill in the application form for each child and you will be notified of eligibility via email from Transport NSW.
