Thank you to the family and friends who came to celebrate their child’s investiture, presenting them with their badges and celebrating such an honourable and proud momentin their education. We know all students elected to represent their peers will fulfil their roles responsibly and with great pride. Last week I shared with you images of our House Captains. See below some pictures of our SRC Representatives.

New Soft Fall Area:We have finally got our new soft fall area outside the hall. The poor old paved area was looking a bit worse for wear and was becoming a Health and Safety Hazard. Doesn't this new surface look fabulous?
School tour for parents interested in enrolling students in future years:Off the back of a succesful approach last year, I am pleased to announce that we will again be running school tours for parents with children interested in enrolling at Mudgee Public School in 2025 and beyond. On March18and April 5 at 10am, we will be holding a School Tour for interested parents. We hope to share our school in action with a mixture of learning experiences on show. I will endeavour to visit preschools and daycares to drop off flyers to promote these events; however, if you know your neighbour or friends have little ones that could be Mudgee PS students in future years, please share this information with them. I have also included a flyer below which shows our Road to Kindergarten for 2025 students. We have already marked dates for Kindergarten Information Evening as well as Kindergarten Safaris.
Yarn and Cuppa Afternoon: We are looking forward to our Yarn and Cuppa Afternoon on Wednesday 13 March, where we will meet with all our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and their children. This is a great time to chat with your child's classroom teacher about what goals you would like to see for your child in 2024. It is also a time to get together as a community and catch up over some afternoon tea. Teachers will be sending home a survey so we can capture parent perspectives and help set goals for 2024.
School photos: Happening Monday 11 March! You can order your photos online and then return your envelope to school. Family photo envelopes can be requested via the office. Students will need to wear their Summer Uniform. "Bring your smiles everyone!"
Classroom Visits:This fortnight, I have been busy visiting both Stage 3 (Year 6) and Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2) classes. I continue to be so incredibly impressed with student engagement and behaviour. Next week, I will finish off visiting Stage 1 classes and I can't wait to see their learning in action! Here some photos of my classroom visits over the past couple of weeks.

School and Community Charter:One thing I really value is working closely with our parents and community and I am committed to work to create positive environments for students, staff and the entire school community that support student learning. The best education happens when students, parents and schools work together which allows us to strive to ensure that every student is known, valued and cared for. The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive.
Parents and carers play an important role in the school community. The School Community Charter informs parents and carers on how to engage with NSW public schools. Read theSchool Community Charter (PDF 1.4 MB)to ensure you understand how important it is to create a positive learning environment for our students.
Parents and carers can expect:
to be welcomed into our schools to work in partnership to promote student learning
communication from teaching staff will be timely, polite, informative and solutions focussed
professional relationships with school staff will be based on transparency, honesty and mutual respect
to be treated fairly. Tolerance and understanding are promoted as we respect diversity.
Our staff will find a time to talk to you when they can give you their full attention. Please remember that while our staff are in class or dealing with other matters, they may not be available to answer your questions immediately.
In all workplaces, people have the right to feel respected. Unacceptable and offensive behaviour has no place in our school community. If you are emailing or messaging a teacher directly, please be mindful of their right to disengage with their work outside of general school hours and focus on their personal and family life. This involves being consdierate of time and being careful with the langague you select in written communication.
Thanks for your anticipated support in ensuring we work together to maintain respectful relationships that are formed for the benefit of all students in the school.
Upcoming Events: See below the infographic which tries to map out all the events over the next 3 weeks. Other dates coming up beyond this are:
- P&C AGM: Monday 25 March; Easter Hat Parade Thursday 28 March and
Have a great week ahead!

Principal's Awards
Congratulations to the following students on receiving a Principal Award or Deputy Principal Awards in the past fortnight.
Exciting news! In 2024, our Year 3-6 students are engaging with a new Mathematics and English curriculum as part of the NSW Curriculum Reform. This change is all about strengthening what is taught in schools by making sure we build strong foundational skills in English and Maths and focus only on essential learning for our students. Our K-2 staff and students began this journey last year and we are now enjoying seeing the whole school participating in enhanced learning experiences. The staff at Mudgee Public School are very enthusiastic about this chance to reenergise and refine what we teach and how we teach it, with the goal of making learning even more engaging and meaningful for our students. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this new approach will have on our students’ learning journey.
Technology: At Mudgee PS we have a range of techngology available to integrate across the curriculum to support learning and engagement. On Wednesday, Kerri Sharp our Digital Classroom Officer organised a showcase of all our innovative technolgoies. From podcasting, to filming, to coding, robotics and more, MPS staff explored these technologies and are starting to chart a plan forward. Exciting times ahead!

NAPLAN 2024
This term, your child will undertake NAPLAN assessment. NAPLAN provides schools with valuable information about your child’s learning progress in literacy and numeracy. NAPLAN is only one way we assess student learning in years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
NAPLAN will take place from Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March in 2024.
Your child's teacher is getting students ready for NAPLAN and will provide appropriate support and guidance. Students will become familiar with the types of questions in the tests and the online testing platform that we use. In addition to school preparation, I want to share with you some information on how you can further support your child for NAPLAN.
Preparation for NAPLAN
Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN and do not need excessive preparation or the use of services by coaching providers. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program. If you or your child/children would like to know more about the NAPLAN online platform you can go to the public demonstration site and do some practice tests and past NAPLAN papers are also available online.
Participation in NAPLAN
Adjustments are available for students who have diverse functional abilities and needs. On a case-by-case basis, reasonable adjustments for individual students can be made so they can complete NAPLAN. Speak to your child’s teacher to discuss the adjustments available. For more information read the Guide for schools to assist students with disability to access NAPLAN (PDF 96 KB).
Assessment tips
You can support your child by reminding them to simply do their best. You can also encourage:
a healthy diet
drinking lots of water
limiting caffeine (students in year 7 and 9 only)
getting enough sleep
exercise and relaxation time
These along with arriving at school on time ready to sit the test will help prepare our school to bring their best on the day.
