Equity and Financial Assistance at Mudgee Public School: I want to touch upon the importance of accessibility in education, particularly regarding excursion costs. At the heart of our efforts is my strong belief that public education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means. We are dedicated to upholding this principle and will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that all students have equal opportunities to thrive and succeed.
At our school, we prioritise equity by ensuring that all students can participate in excursions regardless of financial constraints. We do this by subsidising costs within our budget and we understand that circumstances vary, and we're here to support families with flexible payment options and understanding if more time is needed. We handle all requests for partial and full supplementation with the utmost level of confidentiality and I am very cognisant that every families circumstance is different. Please know that there is no judgement by myself or the school if people need a hand. Money is tough - I get it!
I also understand our new payment system through the Sentral Parent Portal can appear impersonal and abrupt demanding fee invoices etc. This automated invoicing system is currently out of my control, but I am working with this company around the language used in their communication as well as the process for collecting voluntary costs for excursions and activities (PAYMENT FOR ALL EXCURSIONS AND ACTIVITIES is OPTIONAL).
There are many benefits for parents using the parent portal, as well as the administrative benefits for our office staff. For those who aren't comfortable using the parent portal, payment via Eftpos in the office is available, as is cash payment.
School Tour for parents interested in enrolling students in future years:As mentioned in previous communications, we have two school tours operating this term for future/prospective parents of Mudgee PS. All welcome to come along. We hope to showcase all things MPS including: Literacy and numeracy in action, CAPA Groups, podcasting, our wellbeing hub, technology in action, and much more. Help share the news with families that you know have little ones that could be future MPS students.
Yarn and Cuppa Afternoon: What a lovely afternoon it was on Wednesday at our Yarn and Cuppa. It was so nice connecting with our families, engaging in some cultural activities, as well as having a yarn, a cuppa, and some tucker, but most importantly listening to how we can support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in 2024. Thanks to all who attended, as well as our fabulous staff for all their efforts.

School Photos: A huge shout out to all our students regarding school photo shoot last Monday. I just wanted to pass on some fabulous feedback from the photographers. Zac, the coordinating photographer from MSP, made a point of coming to let us know that our children were incredibly well mannered, respectful and great listeners throughout the photos. This is something that we should all be really proud of, and I am very proud of our students too.
P&C Meeting and AGM: Our AGM is fast approaching - Monday 25 March at 6pm in the Residence. I want to extend a warm invitation to each of you to join us and actively participate in our Parent and Citizens (P&C) association. Your involvement is so important to the success of our school community. By attending the AGM/P&C meetings in general and contributing your ideas, perspectives, and skills, you not only support your child's education but also help shape the direction of our school. I have always really valued this input as I strongly believe that together, we can create an environment where every student can thrive. There will be catering provided and we hope to see you there.
FUN FRIDAY: Last week we held Fun Friday for students who displayed excellent behaviour in the first five weeks of school. It was great to see such a large representation of our student population at this event. Students will have an extra special opportunity at the end of this term to work towards attending our Fun Friday which will see two large inflatables here at Mudgee PS on the last day of term. I hope all parents can work with us in encouraging positive behaviour as I would love to see 100% attendance at this event.
Podcast: Our latest student podcast episode has just landed, and you won't want to miss it! Step into the world of Mudgee Public School with our brand new hosts as they share memories, updates, and all the buzz happening this term. From nostalgic reflections, to upcoming events, there's something for everyone in this episode. Tune in now to catch all the excitement and be part of the action! Don't forget to have your 'Guess of the mystery guest'. Let's celebrate the spirit of MPS together! Click on the link below to have a listen.
School Cross Country: Our school Cross Country carnival is coming up in Week 9. All parents are welcome to attend - This is a whole school event. Students are welcome to wear house colours on the day.
Upcoming Events: See below the infographic which tries to map out all the events over the next 3 weeks.
Road Safety Project:For the past few weeks, Stage 3 have been working on home projects on road safety. On Thursday, Lachlan Brydon presented this video to his class and I know Mrs Cowan couldn't be more proud of him. When it was shared with me, I just had to share it with the community. So many great messages and a really super effort put in. Well done, Lachlan.
Have a great week ahead!

NAPLAN 2024 - Yrs 3 & 5
NAPLAN has started with children in years 3 & 5 undertaking the NAPLAN assessment. NAPLAN provides schools with valuable information about your child’s learning progress in literacy and numeracy. NAPLAN is only one way we assess student learning in years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
NAPLAN will take place from Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March in 2024.
Preparation for NAPLAN
Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN and do not need excessive preparation or the use of services by coaching providers. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program. If you or your child/children would like to know more about the NAPLAN online platform you can go to the public demonstration site and do some practice tests and past NAPLAN papers are also available online.
Participation in NAPLAN
Adjustments are available for students who have diverse functional abilities and needs. On a case-by-case basis, reasonable adjustments for individual students can be made so they can complete NAPLAN. Speak to your child’s teacher to discuss the adjustments available. For more information read the Guide for schools to assist students with disability to access NAPLAN (PDF 96 KB).
Assessment tips
You can support your child by reminding them to simply do their best. You can also encourage:
a healthy diet
drinking lots of water
limiting caffeine (students in year 7 and 9 only)
getting enough sleep
exercise and relaxation time
These along with arriving at school on time ready to sit the test will help prepare our school to bring their best on the day.

Office News - Sentral for Parents Portal
SENTRAL FOR PARENTS PORTAL APP - 2024 & beyond
The Office staff would like to thank families for their patience and understanding regarding the automated invoicing and payment system that has commenced. Your cooperation and respect is greatly appreciated as we work through delivering a better online service. If you require an 'ACCESS KEY', need assistance with the App or have questions regarding an invoice, please phone for help. We, the office staff, are all learning the financial processes and do appreciate your positive feedback and kindness in discussing any concerns.
Please note: Invoices will automatically generate and be emailed on the day that a permission note is printed for students. Ask your child for their note before paying any invoice. Partial payments can also be made when 'making a payment' by changing the amount of the total cost. Payment of invoices for all excursions and activities is optional!
Download a better communication experience today and discover features from every angle!
There are many functions that the 'Sentral for Parents' Portal & App will enable families to access but for now you can;
Make payments directly for school excursions & incursions
It is important that the school have correct student contact details incase of an emergency, including residential address, parent/carer email, phone numbers and any additional emergency contacts. If you wish to check your student details, or wish to make any changes, please phone the office for assistance.
PICKING YOUR CHILD UP EARLY
In the event that you have to pick your child up early, we ask that you come to the office and sign them out. You can then go to your child's classroom to collect them.
