Welcome to our final newsletter of Term 1. What a wonderful term we've had full of fantastic achievements. I am so proud of the way our school year has started. This week in our executive meeting we discussed the things we are proud of so far this year which included the way our staff and students in the primary have embraced the new syllabus, introduction of Morning Circles as a part of some of the Berry Street Education Model, the wide range of extra curricular opportunities students have been afforded, positive student behaviour and a record number of parents at our parent teacher interviews are just a small amount of things we should be proud of.
On Wednesday, we held our schools PBL assembly for students who who have moved through our rewards system. Congratulations to all students who received an award at this assembly. I know that many students are very close, so I’m expecting a really big influx of award recipients at the next assembly. A big thank you to all parents and family members who attended this assembly, as well as the organisation by Miss Donnelly and Mrs Meers.
On the topic of PBL, many students attended our reward 'inflatables' day today. This says to me that as a whole, students are working really hard in the classroom and playground to follow our Positive, Behaviour and Learning principles. Congratulations to all those students who attended the inflatables! A wonderful day of excitement and fun.
I hope all our families and staff members have a wonderful and relaxing holiday. We look forward to seeing the students return on Tuesday April 30, ready for another busy and productive term of learning!
Kindergarten Information Evening:Our Kindergarten Information Evening 2024'. April 30 - 5.30pm (First day back for students - Term 2). This information session is for all parents who have children starting at Mudgee PS in 2025 who live in the Mudgee PS Catchment area. At this session we will talk about our road to Kindergarten, our school programs and initiatives, and provide an insight into Kindergarten classrooms with an opportunity for questions.
Enrolments are now open, and we encourage all parents with Kindergarten children for next year to begin this process. You can simply go to our website (Direct link below) to enrol your child. If you know of people who have little ones starting in 2025, please pass this information on to them.
ANZAC March: A note was sent home regarding the Mudgee Town ANZAC Day march. Students are to meet at the corner of Mortimer and Perry St at 10.15am on Thursday 25th of April. Students are to wear Winter uniform.
MPS will be holding our traditional ANZAC Day Service to show our respect for those in the military who have served for our country. The service will be at 10:45am on Tuesday 30th April (students first day back in Term 2). Mr Geoff Robinson (president of the Returned Services League of Australia, Mudgee Sub-branch will be our guest speaker. Students are encouraged to bring in flower donations to lay, as a sign of respect.
Podcast: On Wednesday, Mudgee Public School hosted Gulgong Public School for an engaging podcasting session right here at 'The MPS Hive'! it was wonderful to witness the power of connection and collaboration as students from Gulgong Public School, including Matilda, Olivia, Jake, and Mitchell, joined forces with our very own Mudgee Public School counterparts. A special thank you goes out to our MPS hosts Evie, Addisyn, Liam, and Jake for their outstanding hospitality. Stay tuned for updates on our next collaborative endeavor and prepare to be captivated by the magic of this experience! Keep an ear out for the forthcoming podcast, "The MPS Hive," streaming soon on Spotify!
We have a number of staff who are taking leave at the beginning of Term Two for short periods of time. Mrs O'Hara is taking leave from Wednesday of week one through to Friday of week two. Mr Grant Hough will relieve as Deputy Principal for Years 3-6 during this time period. Mr. Steve Smith will relieve as Assistant Principal for Stage 3. Mr Hough will communicate with his class parents around his replacement during that time.
Mel Shearman, our Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction (APCI) K-2 is also on leave for the first two and a half weeks of school. Mrs Karissa Nicholls will relieve as APCI and it is anticipated that Ms Michelle Peters will take Mrs. Nicholls class during this time.
Another change in the executive is that, as planned, Mrs. Danielle George will take on the role of our second Deputy Principal K-2, beginning next term until the end of the year. Mrs Liesel Meers, who has done a fantastic job relieving in this role over the last two and a half terms, will take on the role of Stage One Assistant Principal. A huge thank you to Liesel for all her hard work and effort and dedication during this time. A huge thank you also to Karissa who has relieved one day per week for the last year and a term as Stage 1 Assistant Principal for Danielle. It has been a real privilege having Mrs Nicholls on our executive team.
Next term, we also welcome back Mrs. Kathy Walsh three days per week as teacher in our Support Unit. She will be teaching RFF across a number of classes. A big thank you to Hali Lonergan, who has filled this role in term one, in the Support Unit. Also returning to the Support Unit next term is Mrs. Sarah McMahon as a School Learning Support Officer. Elaine Russell has done a wonderful job acting in the School Support Officer role and has taken up a new opportunity with the PCYC. A huge thank you to Elaine for all of her work with students and staff throughout this time.
We also farewell an integral staff member - Mr Glenn Randall. Not many of our parents will know Glenn, (because a lot of his work happens behind the scenes), but he has been our remote school counsellor over the past year who was allocated through the School Counselling and Telepsychology Rural and Remote Schools (SCATRRS) program. SCATRRS is a team of senior psychologists in education who support schools in rural and remote NSW through a combination of in-person and telepsychology services. Mudgee PS was blessed with the appointment of Natasha Wright as school counsellor at the beginning of the year which means that Mudgee PS no longer meet the requirements for the SCATTRS service. Glenn has visited our school twice a term and provided ongoing support every week. I wanted to take a moment to express my most sincere thanks for the invaluable service and support Glenn has provided to Mudgee Public School through the program. All the best, Glenn.
Jump Rope for Heart: The students are continuing to enjoy the benefits of the Jump Rope for Heart practise. Don't forget to continue to gather sponsorships during the holidays. We look forward to the Jump Off in Term 2, Week 3.
HPGE Focus Group: It was wonderful to have many interested parents and carers to our first High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Focus meeting last Thursday afternoon. Parents and staff members met to put forward ideas and discuss important matters regarding our school's educational initiatives in this area. This included the four domains of high potential: Intelletual, Creative, Social/Emotional and Physical. It was great to share the wonderful opportunities already provided at MPS but to also discuss ways of improving this focus area. The HPGE Focus Group will continue to meet and work towards creating an environment where every student can thrive and excel and all students have opportunities to reach their full potential.
On the Sporting Fields: Well done to the MPS Boys Cricketteam whowere successful against Gulgong PS last Tuesday. Congratulations also to Grace, Jasmine and Indie, and to Max who were successful in trialling for the Zone Netball team and the Western Rugby League team this week. A big thank you to the staff members who have dedicated their time to support the students and teams.
Upcoming Events: See below the infographic which tries to map out all the events over the last 2 weeks of term, as well as the first week back next Term.
Rest up during the holidays and we look forward to seeing you back for Term 2, Tuesday 30 April 2024.

Principal's Awards
Congratulations to the following students on receiving a Principal Award or Deputy Principal Awards in the past fortnight.
Sentral for Parents Portal App is a new system of payment for our school community. We appreciate your continued patience and support as we are learning the new system. If you have already activated your portal account with a generated Access Key, thank you.
The Sentral for Parents Portal App allows you to pay online rather than sending cash with your child to school or coming into the office to pay in person. For further information to setup your portal is available on the Mudgee Public School webpage under the Make a Payment TAB.
It is really advantageous to have a portal account as more features will be rolled out in due course as we settle into the features that Sentral has available. Currently, student absences can also be explained through the App as well as making payments.
With all excursions, activities, events, and other miscellaneous items that have a cost associated, an invoice will automatically be generated into your portal, and you will be advised via email. Financial assistance is always available, please contact your child’s teacher or the front office if you need to discuss this. Confidentiality is always highly respected regarding assistance and payment plans are also available for all school events.
Furthermore, the invoicing system may send an invoice in advance of a note coming home with your child. Please ask your child for any notes so you are fully aware of the details around the event or activity you are paying for. DO NOT pay an invoice until you have signed and returned any permission/consent forms.
As always, we are here to help if there are any issues.
If you require an ‘Access Key’ to login, please contact the school office for assistance by phone 02 6372 2036 or email mudgee-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au .
It is important that the school have correct student contact details incase of an emergency, including residential address, parent/carer email, phone numbers and any additional emergency contacts. If you wish to check your student details, or wish to make any changes, please phone the office for assistance.
PICKING YOUR CHILD UP EARLY
In the event that you have to pick your child up early, we ask that you come to the office and sign them out. You can then go to your child's classroom to collect them.
School Office phone number - 6372 2036
