Reporting Absences
We are excited to announce that, starting Monday, 2nd September (Week 7), Mudgee Public School will begin using the Sentral Portal to notify families each day their child is absent from school. Families will receive a push notification as well as an email whenever their child is marked absent. You can then use the app to promptly explain the reason for your child's absence. Families can still notify the school of their child's absence by calling the front office, emailing the classroom teacher, or using Class Dojo, as well as now utilising our new notification system through the Sentral Portal.
Please note, in accordance with the NSW Attendance Policy Act, when a child is absent from school, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to provide a justified explanation for the absence. This explanation must be given within seven days of the child's return to school. A justified absence is one that meets the criteria set by the NSW Department of Education, such as illness, medical appointments, religious observances, or exceptional circumstances.
If an explanation is not provided within the seven-day window, the absence may be recorded as unjustified, which can have implications for the student's attendance record and may prompt further action by the school.
This new system is designed to streamline the process and ensure that absences are recorded accurately and promptly.
If you have not yet engaged with the Sentral Portal for Parents App, we encourage you to download it as soon as possible. Should you need assistance or require your access key, please contact the school office.
We appreciate your cooperation as we trial this new attendance notification rollout.
