Thank you Ms Kelly and Mrs Seis:I write with very mixed emotions as at the end of this term we will say goodbye to two very valued members of our school team. Mrs Cheryl Seis has been our SAM for the past few years, and she had to take unexpected leave last year. As Christmas approached, Mrs Seis made the decision to relinquish her position. Cheryl has been a remarkable Office Manager and has played a significant part in developing the culture of our school team as well as refining many processes and systems to make it easier for all staff, students and parents.
Whilst Mrs Seis was on leave, we were lucky to secure the services of former SAO Ms Fiona Kelly as our relieving Office Manager. Fiona slid straight back in like she had never left. Fiona brought the team together and demonstrated a kind and warm-hearted demeanor which is pivotal in leading an office responsible for bringing staff, students and families together. Ms Kelly kindly left her home on the Central Coast to help us, however, the time has come for her to make her way back home.
Both ladies have been wonderful assets to our school, and we wish them well in their future endeavours.
Recruitment for the new SAM is underway, and I hope to share that news with you all to begin next term.
School Tour: I thoroughly enjoyed my experience last Monday with our school tour for new and prospective parents. It was wonderful to not only showcase the things that make Mudgee PS so special but also to meet many new faces. I would like to commend members of our Student Leadership Team for their efforts in hosting our "tourists". They spoke so incredibly well and really demonstrated what a fabulous Mudgee PS student looks like. For those who missed this tour, we have another one on Wednesday morning.

Yarn and Cuppa: What a delight it was to share our Yarn and Cuppa on Wednesday afternoon with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families. I was so incredibly impressed with the way in which the conversations naturally unfolded as parents, students and teachers sat down to really authentically talk about goals and aspirations for our students. A huge thank you to Ms Roberts for her organisation of the event, as well as the many volunteers that made the afternoon such a success.
Cross Country: Once again, I was an immensely proud member of the Mudgee Public team when I attended the Cross Country Carnival. A huge parent turnout helped set the tone for what was going to always be a real community-oriented event. Mr Harris' organisation and encouragement are hallmarks of a great Mudgee PS carnival, along with Mr Hough having our House Leaders well prepared to ensure house spirit was present as well. The thing that impressed me most was the level of personal achievement and effort on display. There was barely a child who didn't finish the race without a smile on their face! In fact, I saw many children pushing themselves to the finish line. The level of inclusion was also remarkable as I watched many students, teachers and parents assist those who need that little bit of help. My words probably haven't done this justice as to how truly proud I am of our school and community. Well done to those students who will be heading off to the Zone Carnival next term.
PBL Assembly: We look forward to celebratingour Term 1 PBL Assembly on Thursday April 10 at 9.45am. Most students receiving an award, should have received their invitation on Friday.
Anzac Ceremony: Mudgee PS students are again invited to represent the school at the town Anzac March on April 25. Students are asked to be in full winter uniform and meet at the corner of Perry and Mortimer St at 10.15am. Our teachers will be once again on hand to supervise the march. Students can be collected after the march at Robinson Park, near the playground and are welcome to stay for the ceremony with their families.
Easter Hat Parade and Raffles:We look forward to welcoming families to our Easter Hat Parade being held on Friday 11th April at 9:45am. The Easter Hat Parade is always a student favourite and this year the band will be playing so you don't want to miss it! Easter raffle tickets will be available to purchase online until the morning of the Hat Parade so hop along and get your winning ticket. The Parade will be held on the school basketball courts.
School Development Days:Next term, we have two School Development Days to begin the school term. Monday April 28 and Tuesday April 29 are school development days for the staff. The focus for the first day will be on High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) professional learning, which is a state wide focus and also a priority for us here at Mudgee PS in 2025. Students will be welcomed back to Term 2 on Wednesday April 30.
Have a great weekend, and week ahead.

Agentic Learning for Mathematics
Last week the teaching staff at Mudgee Public School once again had the opportunity to work with Lyn Coote from Connect-ed and develop their knowledge of agentic learning in mathematics. Agentic learning emphasises the role of students as active participants in their own learning process. It encourages them to take ownership, make choices, set goals and engage critically with concepts. In mathematics, this means encouraging students to actively participate in problem-solving, collaborate with peers and reflect on their understanding. This approach not only enhances understanding but also promotes a growth mindset, empowering students to view challenges as opportunities for growth. A focal point of working with Lyn was the hands-on class demonstration. Teachers observed Lyn deliver lessons where agentic learning principles were applied. The demonstration illustrated how to present mathematical problems in a way that invites student input and encourages exploration. Teachers noted the effectiveness of allowing students to choose their methods for solving problems, which led to richer discussions and deeper understanding. We are excited to see how these strategies will take shape in our classrooms and support student agency in math's education.
