MPS Newsletter - Week 5, Term 4 - 5 Nov 2021
Principal's Report
Exciting Times for Students as Restrictions begin to Ease
Whilst we continue under Level 3 guidelines, there has been some pleasing easing of restrictions announced from Monday 8 November. It is expected that these arrangements will be in place for the remainder of the school year.
- Local Excursions can once again occur providing they are outdoors, or if we have sole use of the facility
- We can plan for Swim School (which will take place in Weeks 8 and 9 of this term (22 November - 3 December)
- P&C meetings are permitted onsite. Parents must be fully vaccinated. (We may continue these online - stay tuned!)
- Fully vaccinated parents and carers will be allowed on site to support curriculum delivery, vulnerable students or students with disability, student wellbeing activities and school operations (example; reading support, canteens and uniform shops). Parents and carers must check in using the school check-in, show proof of vaccination on entry to the school site and follow mask-wearing requirements. (More information to follow from classroom teachers)
- We can plan for our Year 6 Farewell - the proposed date at the moment is Wednesday 15 December.
- Sporting activities can take place offsite e.g. we can head over to Vic Park for sport like we have done previously
- Cohort (Stage) Assemblies can take place outdoors.
- From Monday 8 November, unvaccinated staff, volunteers and parents will not be able to enter school sites. Unvaccinated parents picking up a sick child may enter the grounds only to do this. They must wear a mask, sign in with the QR Code and leave immediately once they have collected their child. They must also follow reasonable directions to support physical distancing whilst collecting their child.
- Our mentoring program can resume providing all COVID safe requirements are met.
- Community use arrangements after school e.g. karate, music lessons, etc. can begin again operating under their own COVID safety plan.
I will keep you updated as more changes come to hand.
Tell Them From Me Survey
I would like to remind everyone that our parent survey window is now/still open for the 'Partners in Learning' survey. The Partners in Learning parent survey is part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys on student engagement. The parent survey helps to clarify and strengthen the important relationship between parent and school. The survey is anonymous and takes about 15 minutes to complete. If you don't have computer access we can organise this for you at school. Please click on the link below.
Staffing Update
As mentioned in last week's video newsletter we have some exciting staffing news. Mrs Melinda Shearman and Mrs Tess Lewis have been appointed as our new Assistant Principal's Curriculum Instruction. Mel is our current Stage 1 AP and Tess joins us from Gulgong Public School where she is currently their Instructional Leader. These roles will begin in 2022 and will focus on supporting teachers and leaders with effective strategies related to teaching of literacy and numeracy.
On that note, Mrs Alyssa Blamire was succesful in one of these roles in a part-time capacity at Cudgegong Valley Public School. Alyssa will be working there one day per week in 2022 and beyond and will still remain on as Assistant Principal at Mudgee Public for the remaining 4 days.
We have some staff on leave which will most likely be until the end of the year. Some of these arrangements have already been in place; however, see below replacement plan.
- Mrs Sue King - replaced by Mrs Megan Cowan
- Ms Jillian Dover - Replaced by Mrs Adele Walden-Lynch
- Mr Terry Conroy (Technology) - Replaced by Mr Fred Wheeler
-Mrs Vanessa RIley (Breakfast Club) - replaced by Mrs Donna Doyle
Canteen Update
Next week, we are hoping to have some "over the counter" sales at recess and lunch for students. This will be a little different than normal, as we will be taking some items over to the K-2 side of the school to help with avoiding cross-cohort mingling. Stay tuned on Facebook for details.
P&C Gingerbread House Christmas Fundraiser -
This is a reminder that the P&C is running a Gingerbread House fundraiser which closes on the 12th November. Take a Gingerbread House kit home to enjoy with family and create a tradition that everyone will enjoy. A joyous, creative activity to keep or give as a gift.
The youngest child in the family at MPS would have received an order form about a fortnight ago, so please check with your child or alternatively you can download one by clicking below. Orders can also be made online via QuickCliq at http://www.quickcliq.com.au/
A-Stream Testing
Next Friday 12 November, testing will take place for some Year 4 students who have been nominated for our "A-Stream" class. Parents of nominated students should have received or will be receiving a letter outlining the assessment details. If you don't receive a letter and wish for your child to be considered, please contact your child's classroom teacher.
Are you leaving?
Just a reminder that if your child is leaving our school at the end of the year, and not returning in 2022 (excluding Year 6 students of course) can you please let the office know ASAP. I appreciate your assistance in helping us finalise our student numbers and staffing for 2022. If you are leaving, and would like to organise a time to speak with me to offer your feedback on our school please don’t hesitate to contact the office to arrange a suitable time.

Keep your Hands and Feet to yourself
PBL - Positive Behaviour and Learning
Library News
Book Fair - This week your children should have brought home a 'Wish List' with items from the Book Fair they may wish to purchase. There are 2 ways to pay for items: send money in with your child on their Library day next week or pay for items online using the information on the back of the Wish List.
It is important that if you pay online, you MUST fill out the details on the back of the Wish List and send that in with your child.
There are photos on the Mudgee Public School P & C Facebook page that will help you identify the Book Fair items. Unfortunately, there will NOT be EFTPOS facilities for Book Fair purchases this year.
Overdue books - There are a lot of overdue books across the school at the moment. Please check your shelves and return any books, so that others can enjoy them too!
Book Club - This is separate to Book Fair! Issue 7 brochures went home last week. All orders need to be finalised by Monday November 22nd. That is Week 8! No late orders can be accepted, as this will delay delivery.
From The Office
Student Bus Pass Applications 2022 - Student Bus Pass Applications for 2022 are now open. An application will need to be submitted if you are:
1. Applying for a bus pass for the first time
2. Have changed your address
3. Are going from Year 6 into Year 7
4. Are repeating the same school year in 2022
We ask that parents plan ahead and apply for their child’s bus pass as soon as possible. This will ensure the pass is available at the beginning of Term 1 2022.
Applications should be submitted to the School Student Transport Scheme at transport nsw. School student travel | transportnsw.info
Student Health Care Plans - We have many students at Mudgee Public School who suffer from Asthma, Allergies and other health conditions. It is very important that we keep all our student health care plans up to date to ensure that we are aware of what procedures to follow should your child have an asthma attack, an allergic reaction or other health condition, where appropriate action needs to be taken. If your child has a health condition, please ensure that we have an up to date individualised Health Care Plan signed by the doctor. If you need assistance with this matter please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Many thanks for your cooperation in keeping our children safe.
Class Corners - KL & 2W
CLASS KL - Mrs Pam Leathem (Teacher)
KL have settled in well back at school this term. I think many were very glad to return! They have fallen back into the classroom routine with ease and arrive at school with big smiles on their faces. The Infants have received some new toys/tools for the sandpit so we spent some time playing with these on our return to school. Everyone was very busy building castles and pies!! It was so nice being back together again.
We have been busy reading each day, revising our sounds and writing. In English we are doing a Unit on ‘Pirates’, reading lots of stories about them, doing art works and have each been given a Pirate name! We drew our Pirates in a directed drawing lesson. They turned out really well!! We are looking forward to Pirate Day in week 7 when the school will be overrun with many little Pirates!! Arrgh!
CLASS 2W - Mrs Bronwyn Wheeler (Teacher)
2W have been busy little beavers, finishing their Zoofari projects. This is where each of them has become an expert on their animal, written an information report, made accompanying artwork and presented their new knowledge to their classmates. Presently, they are writing a small play that incorporates their animal and possibly others from the class. This has resulted in a newfound energy. We have begun our Geography study of a country that we have a close connection with and are learning to make a Google slide presentation. 2W has become increasingly convincing with their new persuasive powers and they are now learning how to write these convincing arguments. Maths has included many new games lately. Scoot is our new favourite followed by noughts and crosses with dice and making number combinations to 10, 50 and 100.
Staff Spotlight - Mrs Ashlea Fletcher
Hello,
My name is Ashlea Fletcher and I am excited to be welcomed back to Mudgee Public School as a casual teacher over the past few months. I am a Mudgee local, having grown up here and completed my schooling at Mudgee High School.
I finished my Teaching Degree at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst and began working at Mudgee Public School in 2015. I have recently returned from Maternity leave after having two daughters.
I am enjoying being back at Mudgee Public School seeing some old faces and am looking forward to meeting some new ones.
