We have had a very exciting and productive first couple of weeks back at school. The students have settled in well to the new school year, as have our teachers. Whilst we operate under some restrictions, it is pleasing to see upcoming events such as our swimming carnival and PSSA trials being given the green light to go ahead. I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for their support of the distrbution of rapid antigen tests this week.
Student Leaders
I would like to take this opprtunity to formally introduce our school capatains for 2022. They are already proving they are going to do a stellar job.
This week, we held our House Captain elections. Congratulations to these students who will be leading their sport houses. First responsibility will be the swimming carnival next week.
Meet the Teacher
This year due to restrictions, we have had to think innovatively about how we can begin to connect teachers and parents, as we can't have parents onsite for our regular meet the teacher evening. Within the next fortnight, you will recieve some correspondence from your child's classroom teacher which may include something similar to a Stage based video explaining the big things coming up in 2022. More written correspondence about classroom procedures will be available in future class emails. I have also included below a list of teachers and their photos so you can put a face to a name; however, if you feel you need to reach out to your child's teacher to discuss their learning and development, please don't hesitate. We are hoping Parent Teacher Interviews will be able to go ahead later this term.
Stage 3 Visits
Each term , I try and visit one stage per week to assist students in the classroom. This week I have had the pleasure of visiting Stage 3. What a wonderful group of students they are. Stage 3 classes were working really hard. Congratulations teachers and students. Next week, I look forward to visiting Stage 1.

Bus Zone
Please please please don't stop in the bus zone whilst queuing for pick up and drop off. The police are out and about, and it is incredibly unsafe for our students and passing motorists and pedestrians. If you can't fit into the drop off area on Perry street, either complete a lap of the school or find a park. Thanks in advance.
Highlight of the Fortnight
Well, its very hard to go past Kindergarten's First Day of School last Friday. There were so many excited smiling faces, and they were still evident in the afternoon. Congratulations students, parents and teachers on working together to make this a happy and succesful first day of big school. Click on the link below to view the comprehensive album of First Day happy snaps.
The students have enjoyed being back in the Library and I have loved seeing their faces when checking out the new books! Here are some things to look forward to in the MPS Library World...
Book Club - This will be happening twice a term. Students should have already brought home Issue 1 last week. All Issue 1 online and cash orders are due on Monday February 21st. No late orders can be accepted.
Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC) - This will be beginning in the next couple of weeks. It is a reading challenge where students must read a certain number of books before the challenge ends. There will be more information closer to the date.
Book Fair - This will hopefully be happening in Term 3. Stay tuned for more information closer to the time.
Borrowing - This happens every week! K-2 students are allowed to borrow 2 books for reading at home and MUST have a library bag to borrow.
Stage 2 students are allowed to borrow 3 books for home reading, and it is recommended to have a library bag. Stage 3 students are allowed to borrow up to 4 books without a library bag. It is recommended that students use a library bag.
If anyone has any questions about the Library please feel free to email me or call the school.
Thank you and happy reading!

Welcome New Staff
Mrs Tess Lewis (3-6 Assistant Principal< Curriculum Instruction):
About Me: I was born and raised in Dunedoo, so I was very excited to move back to my local area with my husband and two children to settle in Mudgee four years ago. I have worked in many wonderful schools including Narrabri, Roma (QLD), Tamworth and Gulgong, and I am so excited to now be part of the Mudgee Public School community.
Why teaching? Basically, because I had a great one who really impacted my life and inspired me (still at Dunedoo Central School today!) and I wanted to be that person who could make a difference for somebody else.
Fun Fact: I grew up around horses and was blessed to have an amazing childhood competing at local shows and gymkhanas. My claim to fame is beating Hugh Bowman in a flag and bending race on my wild stock horse one year during a local pony club event – I’m sure not too many people could claim that one over a world-class jockey!
Miss Nikki Evans (Classroom Teacher - Stage 3 RFF and LST):
Hi Mudgee Public School Community,
My name is Miss Nikki Evans. I am new to the Mudgee area. I became a teacher after working as a nuclear medicine technologist where I enjoyed teaching university students how to take x-rays and found how rewarding teaching could be, so I changed careers to teaching. I have lived and worked in many areas along the East coast of Australia, including South Grafton as well as Walgett. I enjoy all types of music especially 80s rock. My favourite book would have to be Rowan of Rin. I love travelling and enjoy learning languages and culture, my favourite food would have to be Japanese.
Miss Jessie Forrester (Classroom Teacher KF - Early Stage 1):
My name is Miss Jessie Forrester and I am so excited to be teaching KF this year. We have had a great start to the school year and have enjoyed getting to know each other.
Growing up I attended a small central school with 6 students in my year. When I finished high school, I moved to the Illawarra/South Coast area to attend the University of Wollongong to complete my teaching degree. I only moved to Mudgee in October 2021, so I still consider myself new, if you have a favourite place to eat or explore, I would love to hear!
When I am not at school I love cooking, bushwalking and spending time with my friends and family.
I am very excited to be a part of the team at Mudgee Public School.
Please wear a mask and sign in when you arrive. For those Zooming in, please make sure you register in advance. We would love to see many new faces and current school community members in attendance. Come along and find out how the P&C contributes and supports our school. Membership form is attached below along with contact details.
