Welcome to our week 6 Newsletter and what has been an exciting past fortnight at Mudgee Public School. This week, it was wonderful seeing our students involved in different sporting opportunities. On Wednesday we had over 100 students attend the Hockey Gala Day. A big thanks to Miss Donnelly for her organisation with this. On Thursday, Mrs McRae's girl cricket players headed to Walkers Oval for a game against Cudgegong Valley. Congratulations to all involved! (Images below from both events)

New Strategic Improvement Plan: We are busy working on our new Strategic Improvement Plan which is due for publication at the end of the term. Using the information from our External Validation and many focus groups and surveys from last year we have formulated a draft vision statement and our three Strategic Directions. Strategic Direction 1 is a Department direction, whilst the other 2 have been formulated by us. We welcome any feedback from the community via this Survey Link: https://forms.gle/f3Lt2WT8wGkWZU4BA
School Photos: School photos will be on 15 March. Just a reminder, if you have ordered online, you still need to make sure you return the envelope to school. Also, if you placed an order for a value, classic or premium pack for your children, you are eligible to claim a FREE family photo. To claim this you need to collect a family photo envelope from the school office and return envelope before photo day. Students to wear their summer uniform.
Parent Teacher Interviews: Parent Teacher Interviews will take place on the Wednesday of Week 10 (31 March). Teachers have made themselves available at some other times throughout the week as well. This year, we are excited that all bookings will be done online through Schoolzine. You will be able to book interviews at 5pm next Tuesday by visiting the link: https://mudgeeps.schoolzineplus.com/term1PTI
Highlights of the Fortnight - Classroom Visits
My visits have continued over the last fortnight where I have had the privilege of visiting Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4), and Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten). See some of the happy snaps below as well as this video of KC. We really do have some wonderful students and amazing teachers. Over the next fortnight I am looking forward to visiting some of our extra curricular and Learning Support programs.

SRC - Easter Raffle
The SRC will be holding an Easter Raffle again this year. The raffle will be drawn during the Easter Hat Parade.
We are asking each child to please donate an Easter egg and/or a basket to hold the eggs (suitable size for a prize)for our raffle. All donations of eggs or baskets need to be in to school by Friday 26 March.
Families will also receive a book of 10 raffle tickets to sell. Tickets are $0.50 each. It would be greatly appreciated if families could sell their tickets and return the money ($5) to school, along with the ticket stubs by the 26 March. For those families who would like to sell more tickets these will be available for collection from the front office.
Your support with our SRC fundraiser is greatly appreciated!

Library News
PRC - This week is the beginning of the Premiers Reading Challenge! This involves all students taking part by challenging themselves to read a certain amount of books in the set time. Students in K-2 must read 30 books, Year 3-4 and 5-6 must read 20 books. There are specially marked books in the Library for students to borrow to help them complete the challenge. More information and reading rules can be found at https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html Infants students will be given green PRC Reading Log sheets to write their books down when they have finished reading them. Primary students are being given the option to log their books online via the website. Students will need to know their school login details to do this. All students who complete the challenge will have their name displayed on the 'PRC Tree' in the Library as well as receiving a certificate in Term 4. The challenge finishes on Friday August 20th.
Book Club - Issue 1 orders have arrived and will be handed out to students unless instructed otherwise. There is an option to mark the order as a 'GIFT' which means parents will be called to collect the bookclub rather than it being sent to the student to take home.
Overdue Books - Please remember to return all books once students have finished reading them.
This term, 1P has been reading a lot of different picture books to do with characterisation. Although we have loved each and every book that we have read, we particularly enjoyed Giraffes Can’t Dance as it taught us that if we put our minds to something and practice, we can achieve anything! The students had a fabulous time creating their artwork of Gerald. Check them out below!

Class Spotlight - 4T
4T students were asked to imagine they are one of the Aboriginal people in Syron’s painting watching from the shore as the European people row toward the land that has been inhabited by your people for thousands of years. They created the Acrostic poems (some featured below) to relate to how they would have been feeling. You will also see a photo of the artwork they were using for inspiration. Well done 4T!

Meet the Staff - Mrs Helen Mooy
I’m Helen Mooy, and this year I am working at Mudgee Public as a relief teacher three days per week. I’ve worked at the school for the past two years in just about every classroom, sometimes for a day or two and sometimes for longer blocks of time. I love that I get to meet and work with so many of the children and teachers here. After a late career change and time spent teaching in Sydney’s east, I moved to Mudgee three years ago with my husband, Ben and our three young children. It’s wonderful to live in a country town with so much to offer families.

Meet the Staff - Miss Gabrielle Lyons
I am Miss Gabrielle Lyons and I work at Mudgee PS as the Learning Support Teacher for Stage 1 and Year 3 this term. I am an Indigenous Australian and passionately work on Mudgee Public School’s Aboriginal Education team to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student outcomes. I moved to Mudgee in August last year for work with my partner and now call this wonderful town my home. We absolutely adore living here. This year we’re expecting our first child in May and couldn’t be more excited to be parents.
I feel very lucky to be a teacher here at Mudgee PS with wonderful staff and a welcoming school community.

P&C Report
AGM The MPS P&C AGM will be held on Monday, 15th March at 6pm in the school residence and via Zoom. Have you ever considered being an office bearer for the P&C? Office bearers for the year will be elected at this meeting. Being involved as an office bearer is a fantastic opportunity to understand more about how our school functions and to work closely with the school, especially Principal, Mr Carters, in deciding goals for the P&C and contributing ideas to the direction of the school. This year, we are particularly looking for a secretary and a president. If you would like further information about the P&C or either of these positions, please send an email to mudgeepublicschool@pandcaffiliate.org.au and we'll be happy to talk to you.
Register in advance for this meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
Do you have up to one hour available each week to be a Mentor at Mudgee Public School?
Mentors at Mudgee PS are volunteers with a capacity to invest up to one hour a week with a student that may need some additional support from a caring adult. Our Mentor program aims to develop and support emotional and social resilience in children, thus enhance their capacity to learn. Mentoring is highly valued by teachers, parents and most importantly, can make a difference to a child’s overall wellbeing. Mentoring sessions are one to one (one adult and one child) occur outside of the classroom in an alternate learning space within the school grounds. Session times are negotiated between the capacity of the volunteer and the classroom program. Mentoring activities are guided by the interest of the children and the resources available.
To be a Mentor you will need to:
Be a positive role model.
Have a current Volunteer Working with Children Check from Service NSW
Treat all children with respect.
Respect the privacy of the child and family by maintaining confidentiality
If you would like to find out more information, please contact Mrs Lisa Smith (Wellbeing Teacher) at Mudgee Public School on 63722036.
