Welcome Back to Term 2 Newsletter
Principal's Report
Welcome Back
I would like to welcome all students and families back to Term 2 at Mudgee Public School. I hope the holidays were restful and enjoyable and that you all stayed as healthy as possible.
ANZAC March
Once again, I am so very proud of Mudgee Public School marching to the cenotaph for the town’s ANZAC ceremony. A tradition that is held in high regard at our school which I feel privileged to be a part of. Thank you to all students & staff for contributing today but most importantly thanks to all who have served our country for our future.
Staffing Update
We have had quite a few staffing changes over the holiday period
1. Congratulations to Alyssa Blamire who has been successful with the Assistant Principal Position at Cudgegong Valley Public School. Alyssa has been a fantastic leader to work with and has done a wonderful job as a member of our school executive and leading colleagues within our school. Her advocacy for students is at the forefront of her leadership and I have really valued her insight as an assistant principal at our school. Alyssa has started on day 1 this term and we are working on who will replace Alyssa's teaching load, in the interim, a large amount of this will be covered by Ms Michelle Peters. Lisa Caligari will continue as Relieving Assistant Principal for Early Stage 1 in Weeks 1-5 whilst we establish and determine the recruitment process for our Assistant Principal positions.
2. Lisa Smith Wellbeing Role: Lisa Smith will be on leave for approximately 2-3 weeks starting tomorrow 28/4. Allison Lucas will be working in the wellbeing role Monday - Thursday whilst Lisa is away.
3. School Counsellor: Our school counsellor, Adelle Bungate has received a promotion to Senior Psychologist, Education for the Mudgee Network. What a huge loss Adelle will be to our school. Words won't do this justice; however, she has the strongest sense of advocacy for students particularly those vulnerable students and families, and the support and advice she provides for all staff members is simply invaluable. The beauty is, the senior psychology position was previously based out of Lithgow; however, this has now been split up to a smaller team and we actually host the position here at Mudgee PS, so we technically maintain Adelle as a staff member. Whilst we will have a short-term hole to fill as a new counsellor begins, yet to be appointed, the long-term benefits of having someone like Adelle in this role, and based at our school will be wonderful for MPS and surrounding schools. I will keep you updated as to the recruitment process of our new school counsellor.
4. Mrs Emily Skewes returns as a teacher 3 days this term on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. At this stage she will take over from Karli McKinley when she begins maternity leave later this term. In the meantime, Mrs Skewes will be supporting teaching staff across the school.
5. Danielle George / Steve Smith (Stage 1) and Jen O'Brien (Stage 3) will continue to relieve as Assistant Principals on their respective stages. A big extra special welcome back to Mr Smith who has enjoyed paternity leave with the safe arrival of his first child - Baby Anna - late term 1.
6. Mrs Helen Battye from our front office will continue to relieve at Gulgong High as the School Administrative Manager for the remainder of the year. Kat Booth will continue to relieve as School Administration Officer here at Mudgee PS. Congratulations to both.
7. Mrs Sarah McMahon works as a SLSO in our support unit. She has begun her maternity leave yesterday. Mrs Shileigh Yates and Mrs Rachel Green will support Sarah's timetable. All the very best wishes to Mrs McMahon.
8. Mrs Lisa Kelly works as a SLSO in our mainstream classes and she will be dropping back to 3 days per week this term. Mrs Kelly's timetable will be covered by existing SLSO staff within our school.
Kindergarten 2023
Our first Kindergarten transition event is taking place on Tuesday 10 May at 5:30pm. All parents interested in attending Mudgee Public School are invited to attend. Other transition dates are also on the flyer below.
Mother's Day Breakfast
We invite all mums, step mums and carers to school next Tuesday morning (3 May) from 8am - 9am for our annual Mother's Day Breakfast. An order form has gone home today. If you could please return by Friday to indicate what you may like to eat so the canteen can try and get catering as close to accurate as possible. Cost of the event is completely free; however, there will be a donation bucket there, should you wish to contribute. All money will go directly to the P&C. There will be lucky door prizes available on the day.
We will also be lucky enough to have Workin' Beans Mobile Coffee van so hopefully that keeps everyone well caffeinated.
We look forward to seeing you next Tuesday to spend time with and celebrate all the wonderful mums in our students' lives.
Mother's Day Stall
Our Mother's Day Stall will take place next week Thursday and Friday. See information below

Distribution of Rapid Antigen Testing
As mentioned last term, we have placed an order for more Rapid Antigen Testing Kits which we are still waiting for. As soon as they arrive, we will organise for these to be sent home with students. If families have run out and require more, we still have some available in the front office. Hopefully the new batch will be here very soon.

Library
PRC - The Premiers Reading Challenge is continuing! This is a challenge that all students across the state have an opportunity to participate in. Students in K-2 and Stage 2 should have brought home a yellow sheet to begin writing the books that they have read. Once you have read the required books and filled out the sheet, you can return the sheet to me in the Library. All books are specially marked in the Library to make it as easy as possible to participate. K-2 students need to read 30 books with red PRC stickers on the front. Years 3-4 need to read 20 books with green PRC stickers on the front, and Years 5-6 need to read 20 books with purple PRC stickers on the front. Years 5-6 students are logging their books straight online during Library time, but if you want a yellow sheet to keep track, please come and see me in the Library. More information can be found at https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html Students will need to know their computer login details to log the books online themselves.
Happy Reading!
Mrs Vitnell (Teacher Librarian)
NAPLAN 2022
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. All NSW schools will sit NAPLAN online in 2022.
Our school will be participating in NAPLAN between 10 and 20 May 2022.
In preparation for NAPLAN, our school has also participated in practice tests between 21st to 25th March, 2022. The practice test is a trial run and key preparation activity for NAPLAN in May. It is not an assessment of student ability, and the tests will not be marked.
Excessive preparation for NAPLAN is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in NAPLAN.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact your child’s teacher.
