Last Wednesday, Mrs Morton and I attended the annual presentation of the ladies of the St Mary's Church craft and friendship group. I joined other schools and community organisations to receive a very charitable donation to go towards our breakfast club. These ladies do a lot of "behind the scenes work" fundraising for our community. On behalf of Mudgee Public School, I say the most sincere thanks.
AGM P&C positions
At the P&C AGM on Monday night, the P&C elected the following positions:
President: Vacant
Vice-Presidents: Karen Schrover and Anna Macdonald
Treasurer: Felicity Waugh
Secretary: Vacant
General Executive: Lucy Pye and Marni Gordon
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the 2020 office bearers, particularly Robyn Chase who has been the P&C president for the last 2 years. Robyn has been an absolutely fabulous president. She has worked tirelessly for our school and students, always advocating for ALL students and families. Whilst Robyn has decided to step down as president, she still aims to keep active within the P&C . With that in mind, an opportunity exists for a parent within our community to take the reigns. If you are interested and have any questions, I am sure Robyn would be happy to talk to you. We will hopefully be able to elect a president and a secretary at our next meeting (Monday, Week 2)
I would also like to thank the P&C who on Monday voted to commit the following funds to school projects and initaitves this year:
- $5000 to class budgets for teachers
- $10000 to support the upgrade of technology within the classrooms
- $5000 to support the planting and upgrade of trees in our playground, including irrigation.
On behalf of students and teachers, thank you P&C.
Backflips Against Bullying
As part of the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence, we are hosting the "Backflips Against Bullying" Show on Tuesday next week. All students will get to attend the show and there will be no cost to parents. More information can be found at: https://www.actioneducation.com.au/. Keep an eye out for a collaborative art piece that students will be contributing to around this year's theme "Take Action Together!"
Easter Hat Parade
The Easter Hat Parade will be going ahead - HOORAY! We will have to do things a little differently, due to the cap on Parent numbers we can only have one parent per student, and we also have to run three separate parades to keep our cap on numbers. We can't wait to celebrate this exciting event.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander - Personalised Learning Pathways
This week, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents should have received a letter and survey to help get some information to write student Personalised Learning Pathways. It would be great if we could have these surveys returned before the end of term. As mentioned in the letter, we invite our ATSI community to an afternoon tea early next term for a "Cuppa and a Yarn" on Wednesday 28 April from 3:30 - 4:15. I will remind families closer to the event however, save the date for now.
Student Leaders Morning Tea
This week, I met with our student leaders for a morning tea. We discussed what leadership means to them, how they can make a difference at Mudgee PS and what it means to have the position of school leader at MPS. The common theme was leading by actions & being a role model. They also shared some really positive views about the school as well as some ideas for improvement. Well done leaders! I look forward to meeting with them again in Term 2.
Highlights of the Fortnight - MPS Students at Principal Conference
Last week, we hosted 20 principals from across the Mudgee network for the termly Principals meeting. Whilst this was exciting to host this event, the clear highlight were our students who played a part in the day. The conference opened with a powerful and personal acknwoledgement of country from our student ATSI rep Ziggy Gordon. I have included a video of her practising earlier in the week. At morning tea, we were treated to a stellar performance by our violin groups. Plenty of reasons to be proud to be a member of Mudgee Public School. Well done to all involved!
Cross Country
MPS Primary School Cross Country is Tuesday 30th March. Students will be walking to and from Walkers Oval during school hours. At this stage, unfortunately we will not be able to cater for parent attendance for this event; however, we look forward to sharing pictures with everyone on our Mudgee Public School P&C facebook site.

Library News
PRC - The Premiers Reading Challenge is in full swing with some students nearly completed already! A reminder to everyone taking part: Students in K-2 must read 30 books, Year 3-4 and 5-6 must read 20 books. There are specially marked books in the Library for students to borrow to help them complete the challenge. More information and reading rules can be found at https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html. Infants students will be given green PRC Reading Log sheets to write their books down when they have finished reading them. Primary students are being given the option to log their books online via the website. Students will need to know their school login details to do this. All students who complete the challenge will have their name displayed on the 'PRC Tree' in the Library as well as receiving a certificate in Term 4. The challenge finishes on Friday August 20th.
Overdue Books - Please remember to return all books once students have finished reading them. There are a lot of overdue books across the school at the moment. Please return them so other students can borrow them too.
Blinds -Did you hear or see that we have some very special new blinds in the library? The new printed blinds in the creative corner look absolutely fabulous. Pictures below
ClassTT have been very busy planting and growing in ourclassgardens. We have planted beans, snow peas, corn, tomatoes, beetroot and capsicum. We also have basil, chives, coriander and parsley growing. Our corn and tomatoes should be ready to harvest in the next 2 -3 weeks just in time to start our cooking lessons. In Science, we were excited to see our mealworms have grown and shed their skin and are now beginning to enter the pupa stage. Finally, some of our students have made great gains with their sentence writing using sentence flip tools to support their construction.
TT have also been doing an author study on Martin Handford, the author of "Where's Wally?" James Peterson proudly completing a Where's Wally puzzle. Furthermore, TT have been using their measuring skills to make One Metre Monsters. Jaxon Ross painting his One Metre Monster. (Pictures below)

Class Spotlight - KC
KC have been busy little bees over the past few weeks. We have been learning about the weather and have had great discussions about how rainbows are formed. Group work has been a focus. We are learning the importance of cooperation and communicating effectively. KC have enjoyed outdoor learning experiences during our literacy and maths sessions. We are beginning to read words and write simple sentences with our teacher. Some of our favourite things to do in KC is Art with Mrs Shearman and lots of singing and dancing with Mrs Caligari!

Meet the Staff -Kerri Sharp
Hi, my name is Mrs Kerri Sharp.
I am excited to be back at Mudgee Public after returning from maternity leave. I am a born and raised Mudgee girl and now live here with my husband and 3 children. I started my love of Mudgee Public School back in Kindergarten, with Mrs Rayner, and from that moment I knew that this is where I wanted to be and teaching was my future goal. I started my teaching career in an Orange Preschool before returning back to Mudgee. I have been at Mudgee Public for just under 15 years and still love working with amazing students and colleagues. I am currently working with Kindy and Year 1 this year and look forward to meeting the new families and catching up with old friends.

P&C Report
Mothers Day Stall: We are looking for donations of quality local handmade gifts for the Mothers Day stall. If you have or know someone who has their own business and can assist the P & C with donated gifts, we would love to hear from you.
Congratulations to our Boy’s cricket team who won both of the PSSA knockout games today. Sent in to bat in game one against Kandos, Jordy Munro and Hunter McGrath got the team off to a great start. Both boys retired on 40(as per PSSA rules), Arky Myers 10, Henry Thomson 19 and Freddy Stevens 13. MPS had Kandos chasing 180. In an outstanding bowling display, the MPS boys had Kandos all out very quickly. Charlie Gallen took the outstanding figures of 7/1 off 2.5 overs and Lachie Williams 2/0 off 2 overs. The next round game was against our cross town rivals - Cudgegong Valley PS. Charlie Gallen won the toss and elected for MPS to bowl which proved to be a smart decision. Despite the second game being rain interrupted our boys continued to play great cricket and had CVPS all out for 39 in the 14th over. Charlie Gallen 2/13 off 5, Hunter McGrath 4/6 off 3.2(and was unlucky not to take a hat trick), Jordy Munro 2/5 off 2, Seb Turner 2/11 off 2, Freddy Stevens 0/3 off 1. Chasing 40 to win our boys were outstanding with the bat and played with great maturity. Jordy Munro 1, Charlie Gallen 12 n.o, Hunter McGrath 10 n.o. Today’s wins were the result of wonderful teamwork. The boys have been training hard every Monday after school this term. They played like they train, with great enthusiasm and passion. Well done to them all

GRIP Leadership Day
Last Friday, senior leaders, including School Captains, SRC and House Captains, attended a Leadership workshop in Dubbo with Mrs McRae and Mrs Endacott. Students enjoyed learning through interactive and motivating activities that promoted a wealth of leadership concepts. Students from many regional schools attended and enjoyed actively participating in meaningful games and discussions about the values of:
GENEROSITY - Willingness to use what you have been given (time and resources) on behalf of those you seek to influence.
RESPONSIBILITY - We all have a responsibility to develop what we have and help others to live well.
INTEGRITY - A commitment to truth and honesty in dealings.
PEOPLE - Every human being is of great significance, and has a purpose to fulfill.
Students have returned with some fantastic resources and the SRC are now keen to implement many new ideas.

Buzzy Bee Visits 4D
At the end of Week 6, 4D were the lucky class to receive Buzzy Bee as part of 'The Class of The Week'. We all wanted Buzzy to sit with us, see the work we were doing and observe why we had been selected as 'Class of the Week'. Buzzy didn't always follow our Class Rules but he tried really hard to improve throughout the week. We hope Buzzy Bee comes and visits us again, really soon!
