Welcome Back to Term 4:I hope you all had a restful holiday period. I enjoyed time being spent with my family, a few visits to extended family in Eugowra and Newcastle and then a little bit of rugby coaching at the end to finish it all off. My thoughts are with all of those affected by the rain and hope you have all stayed safe. We had a lot of water here at school and found a little bit of a hole on the bottom playground which has now been fixed.
Chatswood High Band Visit:What a great way to start the term! - This week the Concert Band from Chatswood High School visited Mudgee. Our band students were lucky enough to participate in workshops throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, culminating in a performance for our whole school! Chatswood High School band have been visiting our school for many years and unfortunately this was put on hold during our COVID lockdowns but we were so happy to have them back. Thank you to the staff and students of the CHS Senior Band for visiting our school and working with our band students. We all had a wonderful couple of days!
** If your child was inspired to learn an instrument and play with our school band please ask them to see Mrs Meers (Years 3-6) or Mrs George (Years 1-2).
Staffing Update:A lot going on in the world of staffing here at Mudgee Public School.
5/6B: As you are aware, Mr Baddock finished up last term (although we hope to see him back for some casual work) and Miss Nikki Evans has begun as teacher of 5/6B.
5/6MC: Mrs McRae has had to take leave for the remainder of the year, therefore, Mrs Brooke Pretty will be teaching 5/6MC on a Monday and Tuesday.
APCI (Primary): As you would also be aware, Mrs Tess Lewis has begun her new role with the Department of Education as a Curriculum Advisor. Mrs Liesel Meers is relieving as Assistant Principal Curriculum Instruction in the Primary for the remainder of the year. Mrs Meers will still continue to teach 3/4L on a Friday.
Stage 2 Assistant Principal: As Mrs Meers is relieving as APCI, Mrs Keiran Muller and Mrs Bronwyn Wheeler will be relieving as Stage 2 Assistant Principal this term. Mrs Muller was already relieving in the role at the end of last term and will continue to do so until the end of Week 3. Mrs Wheeler will then relieve for the remainder of the term.
LS and Support Unit : Mrs Anna Baker and Mrs Gabby Lyons have now started teaching class LS in the support unit. Mrs Laura Smede was set to begin her maternity leave on the last day of term. As she finished her day and was making her way to an afternoon tea to celebrate the beginning of her leave, she didn't quite make it and instead, she headed to the hospital to welcome to the world a beautiful little girl named Charlotte. Congratulations to Laura and her family. Mrs Peta Docking will be working in the support unit to help cover some of the RFF.
Changes to RFF Teachers: With all the changes above there have been some tweaks to our RFF timetable, therefore, some classes may have a different teacher for RFF. Class teachers will communicate this if this has occured.
Mrs Dianne Evans: Next week we will welcome Mrs Dianne Evans as a teacher to Mudgee Public School for the remainder of the term. Mrs Evans will be relocating to Mudgee and working in the K-2 area of the school with Learning Support and RFF. Stay tuned to future newsletters to find out more about Mrs Evans.
Peer Support:In Term 4, Mudgee Public School is embarking on a whole school Peer Support Program. Peer Support uses peers as support agents or ‘friends’ who are trained to provide social and emotional assistance and to create a safe and trusting environment.
During Term 4, all Year 6 students will be taking part as Leaders in the Peer Support Australia program here at Mudgee Public School. This is an exciting opportunity for our Year 6 students to become leaders of small groups comprising students in Kindergarten to Year 5. The module we have chosen to cover this year is called ‘Keeping Friends’ and covers content around the importance of friendship, playing in a friendly way and discussing ways in which our friends help us. Lessons from this module will occur once per week on a Thursday afternoon.
This week, our Year 6 leaders have been trained up already for lessons to begin next week.
Parent ToolKit Talk:All parents are welcome to join us on Monday 24th October for our next Parent Toolkit Talk. We’ll be exploring how being a trauma informed community will help our children and our school with local psychologist Alison Nipperess. Trauma affects each of us and we all have a role to play in the health of our community. This is a FREE event.
Munna Reserve:We were hoping to get all students out to Munna Reserve in the next few weeks; however, theseexcursions have had to be postponed for October due to the state of the ground. We are hoping to get out there later in November or early December.
School Development Days (Term 4): In the holidays, there was an announcement of an additional School Development Day for schools at the end of the year which is Monday the 19 December. This means that the last day for students will be Friday 16 December. Staff were also scheduled for professional learning on Tuesday 20 December; however, staff will be making up two half days after school to fit in with presenters of professional learning and to make their learning relevant to our students. In summary:
Friday 16 December: Last Day for Students
Monday 19 December: School Development Day (Staff present)
Tuesday 20 December: School Non-operational (staff not present) due to prior professional learning made up.

Overdue Books - There are a lot of overdue books across the school at the moment. Please return your books, once you have finished reading them.
We have also had a couple of the books being returned mouldy with wet pages. I understand the weather has been very wet lately, but please remember to take care of the books, and use a Library bag.
