A reminder to everyone taking part: Students in K-2 must read 30 books, Year 3-4 and 5-6 must read 20 books. Reading lists can be given to me in the Library once completed, or parents/students can enter the books online using student's school login details. More information and reading rules can be found at: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html. All students who complete the challenge will have their name displayed on the 'PRC Tree' in the Library as well as receiving a certificate in Term 4. The challenge finishes on Friday August 20th.
Book Club - Issue 3 orders were put in this week. All orders should be returned by the end of next week or early the week after.
Overdue Books - There are a lot of overdue books across the school at the moment. Please check to make sure all your Library books are returned so that others can borrow too.
Thank you... to the Mudgee Women's Bowling Club, for their kind donation. We have used your donated funds to purchase books for our Library to add to the teaching programs in classrooms, as well as for the student's reading entertainment.
Happy Reading! Siobhan Vitnell - Teacher Librarian
Class Spotlight -4B
4B have been learning all about angles with Mrs Cowan. They discovered that angles are all around them, including in themselves! Our class went hunting for angles in the environment and identified different types of angles, like obtuse, acute and right angles, they were everywhere. Then we collaborated to make angles using our bodies to make the arms of the angle and our position to make the different types of angles.
Mrs Cowan and Mrs Blamire - Class Teachers
Class Spotlight - SM
Term 2 has started with a bang for class SM. Students have been working hard in all Key Learning Areas, building on their knowledge from Term 1. This Term they continue the English Unit The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. They have been learning about the fictional people and places in the magical land of Narnia. Students are highly engaged and even created their own Narnia in the classroom.
Class SM have been enjoying the practical side of Creative Arts this term. They have been focussing on nature and the environment in Visual Art lessons, creating some amazing pieces of work. Music has also been a hit, with the class learning to play a range of instruments and composing a small piece of music.
In Science, the class has been discovering how seeds germinate and what factors are needed for a seed to grow. Students have been enjoying the hand-on aspect of growing their own plants.
Each week class SM has been putting on their aprons and cooking up a storm in the kitchen. They are excited to be able to cook lunch for themselves and their classmates once a week, trying new foods and recipes. This Term the menu includes butter chicken, hamburgers, spaghetti and curried sausages.
SM are looking forward to a jam packed Term 2.
Meet the Staff - Mrs Claire Harries
Hi, my name is Claire Harries. I have been a teacher for four years working in South-West Sydney. Although I have lived and worked in Sydney for the last few years, I was raised in Mudgee and lived here most of my life so I am very excited to be home in this great community. The staff and students of Mudgee Public School have been very welcoming and supportive in my short time here so far and I am looking forward to all of the exciting experiences I can share with everyone. If you do see me around the school, please come and say hello, I would love to meet you.
Mrs Claire Harries - Teacher
Collection for Equipment
Do you throw away hundreds of bread bags and tags every year? You can support the school, and a great cause, by sending your bags and tags to school for recycling.
Mudgee Public School Breakfast Club coordinators are requesting your support to collect BREAD BAGS until 25th June 2021! (See below). Bring your bread bags to Breakfast Club in the mornings at the hall or you can be deposit them in a collection box at the front office. As a registered school with Wonder Recycling Rewards our recycling efforts will earn the school rewards points to redeem NEW sports equipment from RHSports.
ALL BREAD TAGS will be collected and go to support a company called Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs . The plastic is recycled in SA to supply wheelchairs in South Africa. Click on the link below to see more about this great cause https://ozbreadtagsforwheelchairs.org.au/ Collection boxes are available at breakfast club and in the front office to deposit your tags.

NAPLAN Information
Dear Parent / Carer,
During May 2021, students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will sit NAPLAN. The schedule for the tests is as follows:
Tuesday 11 May, Wednesday 12 May, Thursday 13 May
Language Conventions test (spelling, grammar and punctuation)

Reading test
Numeracy test
On Friday 14 May – a ‘catch-up’ day is scheduled for students who missed a test or were absent on a test day.
Students may be exempt from the NAPLAN test if they:
• are from a language background other than English, have arrived from overseas and have been attending school in Australia for less than a year before the test; or

Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer after consultation with the school principal. To withdraw your child from NAPLAN, a parent or carer consent form must be signed.
All other students are expected to participate in the tests.
Disability adjustments which reflect the student’s normal level of support in the classroom may be provided. Alternative format test materials are available to meet the needs of individual students (e.g. braille, large print, black and white test material or the electronic test). Access to disability adjustments or exemption from the tests must be discussed with the school principal and a parent or carer consent form must be signed.
Please make an appointment with the principal if you need to discuss your child’s participation in NAPLAN.
