2M have had a great start to the year with lots learning and reconnecting with friends.
It has been wonderful to have parents visit our classroom for Easter hat making and to watch us run our Cross Country at Walkers Oval.
In English, we have been developing our knowledge of several types of books and writing. Some of the amazing titles are Welcome to Country, Peggy and Where the Wild Things Are. We have done our best to use simple, compound and complex sentences. Checking our work, and receiving feedback from our peers and teacher, has helped to remind us to use punctuation like full stops, capital letters and commas.
In Maths, we measured length, volume and area with informal objects and metres. There was a fun, pirate theme to our work. As a result, Mrs Morley is now known as Pirate Morley! We used two-digit numbers to play games that developed our knowledge of place value, ordering numbers and different strategies to use to find answers.
In Term 2, we look forward to performing our poems at the Gulgong Eisteddfod and learning recorder with Mrs Warner. Hopefully, some of our bean plants that went home survived the holidays, and we can share our findings with each other.
Thank you for sharing our leaning journey and supporting our growing minds.

Class Corner - 5/6H
5/6H have had a fantastic end of term. We have a love for the performing arts in our class and have spent a lot of time in our literacy sessions reading and presenting short plays from our school magazines or from online resources. After finishing off a few of our units, the class decided that they would like to create their own plays. Students had to come up with a concept, create characters, write a script and perform their play in front of the class. All students worked well as a team and had a fantastic time throughout the process.
After earning enough points on their 5/6Opoly reward system, 5/6H cashed in their points for a ‘Make your own ice cream party’. Students learnt about the process of turning a liquid into a solid through the activity and enjoyed the delicious treat at the end.
Mrs Harries is finishing off at the end of this term and will be handing this fantastic class over to Mrs Cowan and Mrs Pretty for the remainder of the year. She is sad to say goodbye but is looking forward to her new adventure as a mum. Class Teachers - Mrs Claire Harries

SCHOOL VISITOR CHECK-IN and PICKING UP YOUR CHILD EARLY
ALL VISITORS (parents/carers, volunteers and contractors including cleaners) must use School Visitor Check-in to comply with school sign-in procedures. When needing to pick your child up early from school please come to the office and sign them out in the “Student Early Leavers” register. A printed early slip will be provided, and you can then collect your child from their classroom.
CHANGE OF DETAILS
Staff at Mudgee Public School need to stay connected with our families and it is of the utmost importance that parents/carers inform the office of any changes in a student’s details. This includes address, phone numbers, email addresses, emergency contacts and parental responsibility, including any Court Orders which may have been put into place. Please allow us to stay informed by forwarding any changes as soon as possible.
CHANGE OF AFTERNOON ARRANGEMENTS
If the home time arrangements change for your child, it would be very much appreciated if a phone call, to the office, could be made by 2pm. This enables us, to ensure that, the message will get to your child before the afternoon bell time.

Opportunity Classes - Yr 5 & 6 Entry 2024
What are opportunity classes?
Opportunity classes located in government primary schools cater for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students with high potential. These classes help students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level.
Parents normally apply when students are in Year 4. Students who are placed then attend the opportunity class full time in Years 5 and 6 at the primary school with an opportunity class. It is a two-year placement program. In the majority of cases, students who accept a place in an opportunity class will leave their current school to attend the school with an opportunity class.
There is no provision to apply for Year 6 placement only.
There are 77 primary schools with opportunity classes across NSW.
Parents of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are encouraged to consider applying for selective and opportunity class placement For further information and support parents can speak with their principal or contact their local Aboriginal Education and Wellbeing Advisor.
