What a wonderful start we have had here for Term 2 at Mudgee Public School. I feel the positivity and energy from students and staff; and I am throoughly enjoying watching all the rich learning experiences in the classrooms, and indeed outside of the school gates in the extra curricular space. Mudgee PS really is the place to be!
Kindergarten 2024: We had an excellent evening with some of our 2024 Kindegraten Parents last week. I would like to draw your attention to our FIRST KINDERGARTEN SAFARI - which is next FRIDAY 12 May at 10am. Please meet at the front office. If you can't make Friday 12 May, we have a second Safari on Wednesday 24 May. These safaris are aimed at Kindergarten students for next year and will give them an opportunity to join their parents and friendly school staff to familiarise themselves with the Kindergarten classroom and school surrounds.
Don't forget, enrolments are now open - please jump onto our website and get started.
Staffing Update: I mentioned in last week's newsletter that Toni Tiffen was succesful in the Deputy Principal, Inclusion and Support Position. This has left a vacant Assistant Principal, Special Education Position. I am thrilled to announce that Kylie Duffy has been appointed to this position as a permanent staff member. Kylie will continue to Relieve in the Deputy position this year whilst Mrs Tiffen is on leave. We are so incredibly lucky to have such wonderful leadership with special education experience in our school moving forward.
Mother's Day: A big week ahead of Mother's Day events at Mudgee PS. Our Mother's Day stall will operate on Tuesday and Wednesday, whilst our Mother's Day Breakfast is on Friday morning at 8am. Please get your order forms in to your child's classroom teacher by Monday. The whole family is welcome to this community event so please don't be shy - we would love to see you!! There is no cost to the event, however, there will be a donation bucket when you pick up your treats. A big thanks to the P&C for all their work with Mother's Day, as well as Tracey for the preparation of the breakfast. Happy Mother's Day to all our wondeful mums and mother figures :)
School Events: It's a busy busy time here at Mudgee PS. I hope this infographic below helps with what's coming up over the next 3 weeks. Please note, events are subject to change, but this is it to the best of our knowledge!
Have a great weekend, and week ahead

Class Corner - 2E
This week 2E had a visiting teacher Mrs Kerri, who taught us about finding combinations of numbers. We had fun using mathematical tools such as counters and cubes and recording our combinations on whiteboards.
This term in 2E we are beginning to learn about photography. We have learnt about leading lines and framing our shots. Leading lines refers to a line such as a fence or tree line that directs the audience’s eye to the main subject of our picture. Framing our shot refers to using trees, a bridge or tunnel to create a frame to draw our eye to the main subject of the picture. We had lots of fun taking photographs around our school. We hope you enjoy the photographs we took.

Staff Professional Learning
This week, staff have dived deep into professional learning in Mathematics. We have had Kerri Adamson from Corwin, who has worked with our staff around Visible Learning in Mathematics. Staff have participated in workshops, demonstration lessons and looked at how to implement their learning into teaching and learning programs. As a school we will be developing our own beliefs around what a great mathematician looks like, and will start delving deeper into the tasks and learning experiences we provide that enable these super mathematicians. It's the start of an exciting journey!

Office News
SCHOOL VISITOR CHECK-IN and PICKING UP YOUR CHILD EARLY
ALL VISITORS (parents/carers, volunteers and contractors including cleaners) must use School Visitor Check-in to comply with school sign-in procedures. When needing to pick your child up early from school please come to the office and sign them out in the “Student Early Leavers” register. A printed early slip will be provided, and you can then collect your child from their classroom.
CHANGE OF DETAILS
Staff at Mudgee Public School need to stay connected with our families and it is of the utmost importance that parents/carers inform the office of any changes in a student’s details. This includes address, phone numbers, email addresses, emergency contacts and parental responsibility, including any Court Orders which may have been put into place. Please allow us to stay informed by forwarding any changes as soon as possible.
CHANGE OF AFTERNOON ARRANGEMENTS
If the home time arrangements change for your child, it would be very much appreciated if a phone call, to the office, could be made by 2pm. This enables us, to ensure that, the message will get to your child before the afternoon bell time.

Opportunity Classes - Yr 5 & 6 Entry 2024
What are opportunity classes?
Opportunity classes located in government primary schools cater for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students with high potential. These classes help students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level.
Parents normally apply when students are in Year 4. Students who are placed then attend the opportunity class full time in Years 5 and 6 at the primary school with an opportunity class. It is a two-year placement program. In the majority of cases, students who accept a place in an opportunity class will leave their current school to attend the school with an opportunity class.
There is no provision to apply for Year 6 placement only.
There are 77 primary schools with opportunity classes across NSW.
Parents of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are encouraged to consider applying for selective and opportunity class placement For further information and support parents can speak with their principal or contact their local Aboriginal Education and Wellbeing Advisor.
