I am so proud of each and every one of our students who have participated in the Gulgong Eisteddfod over the last couple of weeks. For me, I witnessed first hand the pride in self, sense of achievement, and overall enjoyment for so many students when they walked off the stage at the Prince of Wales Opera House in Gulgong. That is what it's all about - stepping out of their comfort zone, trying something new, and having a great time doing it. The icing on the top was that we won a few categories.
A big thank you to all the teachers who take the time to work with these groups. Above and beyond efforts for the benefit of our students. Good luck to our violin ensemble who will be representing our school this evening at the showcase concert!

DP - Ros Rogers: It is with very mixed emotions that I write to inform you that at the end of the term, Mrs Rogers will be retiring as Deputy Principal of Mudgee Public School. I can't even begin to describe the contributions that Ros has made to our school over the years, which is one of the many reasons why we will miss her so very much. I will share more appreciation and acknowledgement of Ros's service in the coming weeks. One of the reasons why I am informing you all now is to let you know we have begun the recruitemnt process to fill Ros's position. The advertisement is now live on the iworkfornsw website and closes in a fortnight's time. This will mean we hopefully have an outcome by the end of term.
CLC Short Film-Festival: The Cudgegong Learning Community are holding a Short-Film Festival in Education Week. Students in all CLC schools are welcome to submit a Short-Film based on the theme "Past, Present, Future." At Mudgee Public School we are allowed to submit up to 6 films to be in the competition, as such we will have our own film based competition at the end of term. Some classes are spending a little bit of time on this, but even if your child's class is not doing this, all students are welcome to submit their own film. The film requirements are in the images below. There is no limit as to how many students can appear in each film. I'm very confident that many students will have a hidden talent in this area, so encourage your children to get involved by submitting their own film, maybe even with their friends, or siblings. If students need a bit of technical support, they are welcome to see Mrs Sharp at lunchtime on a Wednesday who is more than happy to help! If students need to borrow a device, please contact your child's classroom teacher and we will see what can be arranged. Happy filming!
Parking in the Bus Bay:Unfortunately, over the last few weeks I have witnessed several instances of unsafe road related decisions by our parents out the front of our school. A friendly reminder that you are not permitted to queue along the bus bay, or in the lane adjacent to the bus bay, as you are blocking a lane of traffic. This is causing great trouble for our buses who are unable to get in and out of their designated area. I have seen parents allowing their children to run across the bus bay to get into their vehicle, sometimes even in the middle of the road. This is unsafe for everyone and we must work together to improve child safety. The kiss and drop zone at the K-2 end of the school is there for us to pick up and drop off safely. If you cannot fit into the zone, the expectation is that you move on and complete a lap of the school. The highway patrol have been informed of this issue and will be starting to conduct more thorough checks of the area. Please make sure you follow the road rules to keep all our children safe. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Kindergarten Enrolments: Just a reminder, Kindergarten enrolments are now open. We really need these completed ASAP. Jump onto our website to enrol or visit the office to obtain a paper copy.
Attendance:Thanks for your support with student attendance. This is a reminder that you are responsible to respond to your child's absence with an explanation. You can do this multiple ways: Class Dojo, email, phone call or send in a note. This needs to happen immediately when your child is absent. Thanks for your efforts in supporting the explanation of absences within our school.
Athletics Carnival:Due to current rainfall, the Athletics Carnival scheduled for Friday 9 June has been postponed.
NEW Athletics Carnival date - THURSDAY 22 June 2023
Highlights of the Week:This week, I had the privilege of being invited into two classrooms to see some really special work. Class KF have written a book titled "The Very Hungry Kindergarteners" and class 2E have submitted some marvellous pieces of photography for the Henry Lawson Competition. I thoroughly enjoyed my vists and I am very proud of the work the students have completed. Well done, Team!!

Principal's Awards
Congratulations to the following students on receiving a Principal award over the past fortnight.
It is getting closer to the end of the term and that means one thing ... it is time to look for your child's awards and send them into school to be traded for the next award. ALL awards are to be sent into your child's teacher by Monday, 19th June (Week 9). Awards received after this date will not be accepted and your child will have to wait until the Term 3 PBL Assembly.
The Term 2 PBL Assembly will be held on Tuesday, 27th June. Invitations will be sent home before the end of week 9.

Library News
PRC - The Premier's Reading Challenge is still charging ahead! I have now added a lot of names to the PRC Tree in the Library, including a couple of whole class finishers! Well done to KF and 1RD for completing your challenge as a class! You still have time to read the required amount of books. The challenge finishes at the end of August. More details can be found at: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html
Book Club - Issue 4 brochures were handed out this week. All online orders and LOOP orders are due back by Friday, June 16th. No late orders can be accepted sorry, as this will delay the delivery of Book Club.
Overdues - There are a lot of overdue books across the school at the moment. Please check your shelves at home and return any books that belong to the school Library. If you have any damaged or missing books, please let me know and we can sort something out.
Happy Reading!

Class Corner - 4W
4W has taken on a few challenges in Term 2. We all learned 2 poems: the Road Not Taken by Robert Frost and Cat by Eleanor Farjeon. We received a Highly Commended at the Eisteddfod and a positive response about our interpretation. The following week, many of us performed in the Junior Choir and sang The Candy Man from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory and Rainbow Connection. We received a first place and Best Junior Choir at the eisteddfod.
Many of the children presented some thoughtful Multicultural Speeches with Max, Baylen, Lilah and Grace presented for the Stage 2 speak off. This has allowed them to increase their personal confidence and ability to be upstanders and speak for the justice of others in the future.
The class has been learning some new skills such as stop motion and imovie to try and make 2-minute movies. We are working in small groups to make background scenes and we will be experimenting with green screens.
The children have been enjoying trying out for events for the Athletics carnival next Friday such as discus, shotput and 200m trials.
4W is also enjoying the new format for some Mathematics challenges and learning to listen to each others responses to increase their thinking skills.

Staff Professional Learning
Improving student outcomes is one of the focuses for Mudgee Public this year. The teachers have been building their understanding of what a good Mathematician looks like. This week we worked collaboratively on Maths Dispositions. Learning Dispositions refer to the attitudes andbehaviours which encompass the way individualsapproach learning, engage with challenges andpersist in their efforts to acquire knowledge. As a staff we have come up with 6 dispositions that we would like our Maths learners to be:
A creative thinker, a reflective learner, a self-directed learner, a risk taker, persistent and collaborative.
We will be working more on these dispositions and embedding them into Maths lessons in the future.
Upcoming Professional Learning for Staff:
Whole Staff: Maths- Surface, Deep and Transfer Learning
K-2: Curriculum Reform - Applying Visible Learning in Mathematics principles to new units of work

SCHOOL VISITOR CHECK-IN and PICKING UP YOUR CHILD EARLY
ALL VISITORS (parents/carers, volunteers and contractors including cleaners) must use School Visitor Check-in to comply with school sign-in procedures. When needing to pick your child up early from school please come to the office and sign them out in the “Student Early Leavers” register. A printed early slip will be provided, and you can then collect your child from their classroom.
CHANGE OF AFTERNOON ARRANGEMENTS
If the home time arrangements change for your child, it would be very much appreciated if a phone call, to the office, could be made by 2pm. This enables us, to ensure that, the message will get to your child before the afternoon bell time.
Your Friendly Office Staff - "We're here to help!"
