It is with a mixture of joy, sadness, and immense gratitude that I write to you today. After an extraordinary career spanning four decades, our esteemed Deputy Principal, Ros Rogers, is set to embark on a well-deserved retirement. It is an opportune moment for us to express our heartfelt appreciation for her unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and unparalleled commitment to our school community.
Mrs Rogers (a former MPS student herself) started teaching here in 1983. Between 1984 and 1988, she worked at Gulgong PS, CVPS and then Teacher-in-charge at Wollar PS before returning to Mudgee PS as a permanent teacher in 1989. Many of our parents reading this article have been taught by Mrs Rogers and I'm sure that many of you would be appreciative of her leadership in one way or another.
Ros has played an integral role in shaping our school into what it is today. Her tenure of over four decades with the Department of Education has been marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence, a genuine love for education, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student. Ros has left an indelible mark on our school, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us for years to come.
As our Deputy Principal (and former relieving principal), Ros has exemplified the qualities of an incredible leader. She has displayed a rare combination of wisdom, empathy, and vision that always has MPS moving forward. Whether it was supporting our teachers, fostering a nurturing environment for our students, or working collaboratively with parents and the wider community, Ros's impact has been profound.
Ros's unwavering commitment to our students' welfare and academic success has been a cornerstone of her leadership. She has championed for students, encouraged personal growth, and instilled a love of learning in countless young minds. This was evident when compiling photographs and videos for a Slideshow, where we have seen many ex-students reach out to share their stories and pass on their well wishes.
Beyond her work with our students, Ros has also been a source of inspiration and guidance for our dedicated staff. Her open-door policy, approachability, and willingness to lend a listening ear have created an environment where teachers feel valued, supported, and motivated to excel. Ros has been instrumental in fostering a culture of collaboration and professional learning, ensuring that our educators continue to provide the highest quality of education.
It is not just her professional accomplishments that make Ros an exceptional leader; it is her kindness, warmth, and genuine care for each member of our school community. She has touched the lives of countless individuals, providing guidance, encouragement, and a steady hand during challenging times, non more so than leading the school through the beginning of the COVID pandemic, in what was unknown and uncertain times!
From a personal perspective, I can't thank Ros enough for her support in welcoming me to Mudgee PS as well as the Mudgee Community. Her unwaivering support and encouragement is very much appreciated. Whilst I feel incredibly supported, I also appreciate the way we collaborate on the key decisions we make as a school in the most positive way, which is always with the students at the centre. I feel like we are losing a co-principal, and I know that I will greatly miss working with her as a colleague, but I'll also greatly miss her friendship and the laughs we have along the way.
As Ros embarks on this new chapter of her life, we extend our deepest gratitude for her unwavering commitment, outstanding leadership, and incredible service to our entire community, with service to students at the centre. We are forever indebted to her for the lasting mark she has left on Mudgee Public School and the lives she has touched along the way.
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye!
Enjoy a happy, healthy and long retirement!
P.s. We will see you back as a casual teacher for sure!! ;)
P.p.s There is an Assembly for Mrs Rogers this afternoon at 2:30 pm and if you're up at school and want to pop your head in the door, feel free to do so.

Class Corner - 3S
3S have had a wonderful Term 2. We have been busy developing our skills to be the best possible learners and are working towards achieving our set learning goals.
There have been so many events on this term! From the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition to the Eisteddfod, our local History excursion to the Museum and the Athletics Carnival, 3S have consistently displayed a positive attitude and have represented MPS with pride.
Our class thoroughly immersed ourselves in our class text, ‘The Secret of the Swords’ by Frances Watts, discussing what living in a castle would be like and learning to be a knight would be like.
We have enjoyed developing our additive strategy skills in Maths and have discovered the importance of trying to solve one problem in different ways. We had fun renaming numbers in non-standard ways and loved using our fraction wall puzzles to recognise fractions that are equal to each other.
In Science, we have been studying the topic, ‘The Earth, Sun and Moon’. It was pleasing to see so many students complete a home research project and present their findings to the class. We liked listening to each other and offering feedback to our peers on things we believe they did well and things they could improve on in the future.
We look forward to another busy but exciting term after a lovely break!

Many students delivered their multicultural speeches to their class audience. Some students went onto deliver their speeches in front of the Stage 3 audience. The four boys who competed by writing and delivering an impromptu speech were Freddy, Henry, Seb and Charlie. Freddy and Seb are the two finalists from our class and represented our school on Thursday 29th June. Freddy received highly commended. Both boys did their best and made us all very proud.
Freddy won our Stage 3 Spelling Bee Competition and will represent MPS at a future date.
We have been busily preparing for our Athletics Carnival all term. Well done to students who participated on the day.
Students have been working in small groups to develop a short film based on the topic ‘Past, Present and Future’ to enter the CLC Short Film Competition. They enjoyed working collaboratively to develop create films.
The class sat two Math Games competitions. They tried their best and are all finding this a great opportunity to apply their problem-solving strategies and challenge themselves.

Staff Professional Learning
Over the last fortnight, teachers have continued on their visible learning journey exploring feedback within their Teacher Learning Community Groups. They were explicitly looking at how when they set effective success criteria, students are then able to give great Peer Feedback. An example of seeing this in action was with class 5B, where they presented a feedback criteria to other Stage 3 classes who came to view their dioramas. Visible learning at it's best!
Upcoming Professional Learning for Staff:
Week 1: SchooL Development Day - AECG presentation, Department of Education Webinar, Stage Curriclum PLanning, Own PL Goals + NAIDOC / Strong Strides Together planning
