Welcome Back: What a great start we have had to Semester 2. I trust you have all had a restful break and are energised for the term ahead. This term will see many exciting learning oppotunities from Education Week to Camps, performances and fundraisers. I am really looking forward to what lies ahead and sharing these expereinces with you all.
NAIDOC Week: NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders are cultural knowledge-holders, trailblazers, survivors and leaders, making up the oldest, continuous living culture in the world. This week, we have been celebrating NAIDOC not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week has been a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to learn from our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, as well as elders across our whole comunity. I have loved seeing classroom visits from different role-models who have been passing on all different types of knowledge to our students from an Aboriginal perspective.
This year’s theme For Our Elders is about acknowledging the important role Elders have played, and continue to play across every generation. Thanks to all for a great week of learning.
Kindergarten Enrolments: Just another friendly reminder, Kindergarten enrolments are now open! We really need these completed ASAP as we are required to submit anticipated numbers for 2024 by the end of next week. Jump onto our website to enrol or visit the office to obtain a paper copy.
100 Days of Kindergarten: Next Friday 28th July, Kindergarten will be celerbating 100 days of Kindergarten. This was originally scheduled for Thursday but we have had to move due to another clash. The 100th day is an important milestone because it means students are more than halfway through the year, but it is also a great occasion to highlight how much children have learned since their schooling began. I can't wait to see the activities that take place as well as the interesting costumes that enter the school grounds next week.
Education Week / Open Day / SRC Investiture: An invitation will go home next week, but mark Thursday of Week 3 (3 August) in your diary for Open Day. There will be an opportunity for Open Classrooms in the morning. Parents will be welcome to stay for morning tea and then we will have our investiture assembly after that. We are looking forward to celebrating 175 years of Public Education, as well as all the wonderful things that happen at Mudgee PS throughout the week.
CLC Short-Film Final Evening: Finalists for the short-film festival will receive an invitation next week to the Opening Night at the Town Hall which is Monday 31 July at 5pm. Classes will also have the opportunity to visit the Town Hall throughout the week to view all the films on either Tuesday 1 August or Wednesday 2 August.
Staffing Updates: As always we have a few changes with staff moving forward. Mrs Ros Roser (Learning Support Teacher and Stage 1 Team member) has made the tough decision to take some well deserved Long Service Leave as she considers whether that will be a permanent holiday transitioning to retirement.
Mrs Belinda Neil returns from maternity leave 2 days per week and will be working predominantly in the K-2 side of the school in either Learning Support or RFF.
Mrs Lauren Gregory will be taking leave this Semester and will be returning in 2024. Mrs Karli McKinley will be teaching LL on Thursdays and Friday and is super excited to take up this opportunity.
As mentioned in our last newsletter, Donna O'Hara has been sucecssful in securing the substantive Deputy Principal position vacated by Mrs Rogers. This therefore vacates Donna's Assistant Principal position. Recruitment is about to get underway for that position and at Monday evening's P&C meeting I will be calling for a parent and community representative to sit on that panel.
Sporting Well Wishes: A lot is going on the land of Knockout and Representative sport.
Good luck to Ruby O'Brien who heads to Port Macquarie for the NSW PSSA Netball Champtionships next week.
On Monday of Week 3, our PSSA Knockout Rugby League Team travel to Parkes to participate in another mini-gala day which the winner will be crowned the Western Regional Champion. Good luck to the team!
Our Boys and Girls Touch football teams also have matches coming up.
I have also just received some news from State Cross Country today - Sam Walker ran a brilliant time finishing 42nd (AWESOME WORK!). At the time of writing, I haven't yet heard Hope and Rachel's results but I'm sure they did themselves super proud, as has Sam. Congratulations to you all! A photo of our three state cross country runners is top right.
I wish you all a fabulous Term 2. Don't be afraid to come and say hi!

Congratulations! - PSSA Open RL Carnival
Congratulations to Angus Murdoch-Tilmouth and Finnin Stott of Mudgee Public School who competed as a part of the Western team in the NSW PSSA Opens Rugby League carnival, held June 20-22 at McDonald’s Park, Wagga in the Riverina School Sports area. The carnival included 13 Regional teams from all of NSW including Public, Catholic and Independent School systems. The Western team lead by coach Mr Ben Bruce of Wellington Public School, acquitted themselves tremendously well over the 3 days, growing in confidence and cohesion each game, impressing coaches, parents and spectators with their steely defence, determination and commitment to their teammates.
Wet and freezing conditions greeted us in Wagga on the Monday afternoon impacting the final team training session and certainly didn’t improve heading into the first round of games on Tuesday morning. The Western team found themselves in what turned out to be the hardest side of the draw having to play both eventual winners Sydney South West and third placed, Sydney North but the team conducted themselves with pride and passion, culminating in an impressive win against Riverina and hard-fought draw against North West. NSW selectors watching the team closely over the 3 days following players who demonstrated commitment and determination. Many of the Western team giving them plenty to think about.
Angus and Finn worked hard and showed a positive attitude in each and every game and should be commended and congratulated on their efforts throughout the carnival.
Mark Kelly from Lake Cargelligo Central School was named Western, Players’ Player of the tournament and was presented with his medallion by coach Bruce. The Western team, supported by NRL Development Officer Shanika Harpur was provided with a variety of promotional to present to a variety of players each match.
Thanks and congratulations should also got to all of the parents who not only took time from work and arranged for transport, but also cheered and supported the team each game, adding to the good nature of the carnival. With the calibre of the kids in this year’s Western Open team, rugby league and school sports, look in good shape for the future. North Coast hosts next year’s Open League carnival so right now all boys and girls that love and playing rugby league should be encouraged to ensure they nominate for their school team and trial in 2024.
Paul Faulkner- team manager.

Class Corner - OL
Class OL have made a busy start to the term with NAIDOC week activities. We were shown how to do Aboriginal painting by Mrs Yates. Our parents helped us make Lightening Sticks, attaching things that were sentimental and important to us. We ventured out to the NAIDOC BBQ and tried some crocodile sausages.
We are looking forward to seeing what the rest of the term will bring.

Staff Professional Learning
The staff had the pleasure of attending professional learning with Aleishia Lonsdale, our local AECG rep this week. Aleishia provided some excellent learning around Wiradjuri language and how we can embed this into our current learning plans.
During a playground tour, we learnt about the local native species. Aleishia taught us about the uses of the Bottlebrush- drinking the nectar; the Kurrajong trees- being used for string making and seed grinding for flour; the She Oak- for tools and weapons. These were just a few of the examples she provided. What an enlightening and capacity building time it was for us all.
The teachers look forward to some outdoors lessons with the students passing on this knowledge. Thank you Aleishia!

SCHOOL VISITOR CHECK-IN and PICKING UP YOUR CHILD EARLY
ALL VISITORS (parents/carers, volunteers and contractors including cleaners) must use School Visitor Check-in to comply with school sign-in procedures. When needing to pick your child up early from school please come to the office and sign them out in the “Student Early Leavers” register. A printed early slip will be provided, and you can then collect your child from their classroom.
CHANGE OF AFTERNOON ARRANGEMENTS
If the home time arrangements change for your child, it would be very much appreciated if a phone call, to the office, could be made by 2pm. This enables us, to ensure that, the message will get to your child before the afternoon bell time.
CHANGE OF STUDENT DETAILS - IMPORTANT
It is important that the school have correct student contact details incase of an emergency, including residential address, parent/carer email, phone numbers and any additional emergency contacts. If you wish to check your student details, or wish to make any changes, please phone the office for assistance. PH - 6372 2036
