Education Week: What a wonderful week celebrating Public Education and indeed the wonderful happenings of Mudgee PS. Our Open Day yesterday was a huge success with a wonderful community turnout. Partnerships with our community is what makes our school so special.
This year marks 175 years since the establishment of public schools in NSW. Founded in 1848, the Board of National Education was formed and tasked with establishing a public education system in NSW. Prior to 1848, schools operated under a denominational system and were the responsibility of churches. As we look at public education at Mudgee PS;
we celebrate our achievements throughout the NSW public education system - MPS did this by combining with the CLC for our Film Festival - We are stronger together!
we celebrate the significant contribution public education has made to society over the past 175 years. - MPS did this by inviting back 6 former Mudgee PS students to talk about their careers and how Mudgee PS played a significant part of their life and career path.
we celebrate the work of teachers and support staff in developing and shaping the next generation.
we celebrate all types of learning that occurs at all levels across our education system.
we celebrate our shared responsibility in helping to shape the lives and futures of today’s learners
I am so incredibly proud of our students, parents and community and feel privileged to be a part of it. Happy Education Week!
SRC Investiture Assembly: Yesterday we held our Investiture for our Semester 2 SRC Reps. Congratulations to our Semester 2 SRC representatives. Our school is in great hands! An extra big congratulations to our performance pieces: The Stage 3 Choir, combined Violin Group and School Band. You are all doing a wonderful job - Keep going!

Jeans for Genes - CMRI Mudgee Fundraiser: Today, students were invited to wear a pair of jeans, with their usual uniform items, and bring along a gold coin donation to support the Children's Medical Research Institute. The SRC have also been selling yo-yos for $5 in an attempt to partner with CMRI Mudgee to reach their fundraising goal. From walking around on the playground I could see the event was highly supported. We know this charity is close to home for many of our Mudgee PS community. To highlight its importance I have included these words from the CRMI Mudgee Page:
"Our team cares about the 1 in 20 Aussie kids who face a birth defect or genetic disease. That's one in every classroom, maybe someone you know or love. Every day, many of these kids wake up to pills, injections, hospital visits (or worse). They don't get the chance to run around and just be kids. If they can endure that, and keep smiling, then the least we can do is fight alongside them. That's why we're doing Jeans for Genes and raising money for Children's Medical Research Institute. We want to give these kids better treatments and maybe even a cure.
We’ve signed up to Wear Jeans, so we can raise awareness and start the conversation—we need to do all we can to help save more kids’ lives. Can you help by sharing this message with the people you know and asking them to donate too? We (and millions of Aussie kids) thank you for it!"
At the time of publication, Mudgee PS have raised $1164.35
CLC Short Film Festival : On Monday, the Red Carpet was rolled out at Mudgee Town Hall and schools from in and around the Region gathered to view some very clever short films on the theme Past, Present, Future. It was a sell out crowd and our Mudgee PS films did such an amazing job! All our students then visited Town Hall to view the films on Tuesday. A big thanks to Mr Wheeler for helping run the films. You can see all the film entries below which might give some inspiration for next year, when we hope to run a school-based film competition.

Class Corner - 1RD
1RD have had a very busy start to Term 3. We have welcomed two more students and celebrated with four birthday buckets already this term!!! We have been busy creating goannas, echidnas and emus during Art and everyone in 1RD was very excited to hear that our Deadly Door was among the winners!
In English, we have been learning about representation, how things or characters can be shown in the real world and the imagined world. We are reading “The March of the Ants” by Ursula Dubosarsky and are learning to research ant facts to help us uncover the difference between storybook reading and reading for information. We have also been perfecting our understanding of prepositions and how to change between past and present tense verbs.
It was great to welcome Susan from Bunnings back to our classroom. Bunnings generously donated a class set of bee hotels for us to decorate. Susan taught us lots of interesting bee facts (they never sleep, plus they communicate through dance!) and helped us to decorate and stock our bee hotels full of twigs and leaves ready for the bees to move in.
We are learning to collect and organise data in Mathematics. We used symbols to create faces that represent our favourite meals, how many pets we own, the number of people in our families and even how we travel to school. We are masters of tally marks and are learning to analyse just what our data tells us about our 1RD friends. Look through to the last of our pictures to see if you can decode one student's favourite meal, family size or how they get to school. In Science, we have been investigating the difference between hardware and software and learning that when they work together, they make digital systems. We can’t wait to see what the rest of Term 3 brings. 😊
