National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence:
Once again this week Mudgee Public School participated in the annual, National day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. On Monday students started the week off with the always entertaining and dynamic crew from Back Flips against Bullying. Students were entertained and amazed at the skill of the performers whilst engaging in very specific education around anti bullying, how to recognize bullying and how not to be a bystander. The students also had many opportunities to engage in specific lessons within their classes from the 'Bullying No Way!" resources and NSW Department of Education resource packs. As a culmination to the busy week, students will take the annual Mudgee Public School anti bullying pledge as one to unite to stand up against bullies and report suspected bullying to trusted grown ups.
Multicultural Public Speaking Finals
On Thursday 10th August, Georgia Chase and Freddy Stevens travelled to Young Public School to compete in the Western/Riverina Regional Final of the Multicultural Public Speaking competition. Georgia presented an excellent prepared speech on ' Making Connections' and then presented an entertaining impromptu speech on 'Good Health'. Freddy presented an emotive speech on 'Privilege' and then wowed the audience with his impromptu speech on the topic 'How Annoying' where he explained his frustration with Davy Warner and the Aussie cricket team. Freddy was awarded first place and now competes in the State Final in Sydney in November. This is an outstanding result that is testament to Freddy's passion and skill in public speaking that he has consistently displayed since first competing in Year 3.
Congratulations to Georgia and Freddy for representing Mudgee Public School in this statewide competition.
Book Week, Book Fair and Book Parade:
Assistant Principal Position: The Assistant Principalposition vacated by Donna O'Hara when she was successful in the DP job has been advertised this week and applications close in a fortnight's time. We hope to have an update on this process later in the term. The link to the advertisement is below:
Flavours of Mudgee: The P&C have been lucky enough to secure a stall at Flavours of Mudgee which we know is such a large community event. We will be selling small lolly/treat bags for children at the event. Flavours of Mudgee is on Saturday 23 September which is the first Saturday of the school holidays. Soon we will be calling for volunteers so it would be fabulous if you had a small amount of time to spare to help with this very worthwhile school fundraising activtity.
Peer Support Program: Yesterday, our whole school started Peer Support sessions. The children will be participating in a new module, 'Moving Forward', which focuses on resilience. The experiences in the module help children to identify their qualities and strengths, develop skills, respond with a range of strategies and seek support when faced with challenges. In yesterday's session, the children established connections with the other members of their group and developed their group agreement to enable them to work well together. The children discussed an example of a challenging situation and some resilient and non-resilient responses. You might like to discuss with your child what they can do to help them take an active role in Peer Support.
Next week in Peer Support, children will have an opportunity to discuss their personal qualities and strengths. The children will identify their qualities and acknowledge how they contribute to their achievements. Through activities children recognise they used their strengths to achieve success and can be encouraged to approach future activities optimistically. Ask your child to describe their own qualities and strengths so you can recognise and acknowledge these. We are looking forward to seeing how Peer Support positively impacts our students both in the classroom and on the playground.
A big thank you to Mrs Cowan our Peer Support Coordinator! More images can be found on the school's Facebook site (5) Facebook
Father's Day Bricks and Breakfast Morning:
Mudgee Public School would like to celebrate all of our Father figures with a "Bricks and Breakfast" event on Wednesday 30th August from 8:00-9:30am.
Family and Friends of our MPS students are invited to build, create and inspire with Lego and their little people, while enjoying a yummy BBQ breakfast.
We are proud supporters of The Fathering Project. The project is changing children's lives by supporting their dads and father figures to be the best parents they can be through Dads Groups and online platforms to support father figures.
Our MPS Bricks and Breakfast event aligns with the values of The Fathering Project, and we look forward to welcoming Father figures and connecting likeminded individuals.
Canberra Year 6 Excursion: Year six students from our school have recently undertaken an educational tour of the National Capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. They had an amazing time learning in such a historically important location.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. We acknowledge and appreciate the governments financial comtribution.

Extended Staff Meetings/End of Year School Development Day: Over the next three weeks, staff will be staying back to complete their mandatory training in relation to CPR and Anphylaxis. This training takes approximately three hours. As sessions are limited at 25 people, we can't fit this onto one of our School Development Days. As a result, the School Development Day at the end of the year scheduled for Tuesday 19 December, will only be a half day, meaning no staff will be onsite from around 12pm. School finishes for students on Friday 15 December this year, so this should have minimal impact on families.
Have a great weekend, and week ahead.

We will be holding our annual Book Fair NEXT WEEK!!
August 21st to 25th is Book Week and will be the week we celebrate everything about books! There will be an opportunity for everyone to dress up on Thursday. I look forward to seeing all students and Teachers dressing up as their favourite book characters!
During Library lessons this week, students were able to browse the Book Fair and fill out a wishlist. This list should have been brought home for parents/carers to look at. Payments for books can be made online using the wishlist, or money can be sent in with students to buy in their Library time from August 21st to August 25th.
We will have the Book Fair open for parents/carers to buy from 2 pm until 3.30 pm EVERY afternoon during Week 6.
If any parents/carers are willing or able to volunteer some time to assist in the selling of books, please email me at siobhan.vitnell@det.nsw.edu.au
Any help will be very much appreciated! 🙂

Class Corner - AB
Hello! We are AB.
Most of our learning is connected to personal growth needs. We have all achieved so much this year, for example, transitioning into the school environment, communicating with key word sign or visuals, holding a pencil, writing our name, sitting at a desk, learning our colours, counting to 10 and much, much more. Although we usually learn through interest-based activities and tasks, we have been learning literacy and numeracy concepts through a nursery rhyme unit. This unit has helped us learn songs, alphabet sounds, sequencing, counting, measurement, time and position.
When we are not in the classroom learning we are outside playing and learning with water balloons, jumping on the trampoline, swinging, climbing, digging in the sandpit, bike riding and scooting. During these times our teachers are counting, singing and talking with us. Our favourite activity each week is our bus ride around Mudgee. This excursion is connected to our road safety unit. Please enjoy a few photographs of us at school.
Proudly supported by Mrs Baker and Mrs Evans and their wonderful team, Mrs Smith and Mrs Yates.

Class Corner - 6J
This term has been a very busy one for us in 6J.
We enjoyed starting our Peer Support Leadership this week and can’t wait to continue this throughout the term.
For the back end of this term are focusing on information reports. We are learning to write informative, and interesting reports to teach our readers about an animal of our choice.
As always, we are enjoying our daily fitness sessions where we all get a tad puffed and a little competitive – in great Mudgee Public School spirit of course.
We have also been reciting Mudgee Public School's Anti Bully Pledge, because we say NO to bullying!

SCHOOL VISITOR CHECK-IN and PICKING UP YOUR CHILD EARLY
ALL VISITORS (parents/carers, volunteers and contractors including cleaners) must use School Visitor Check-in to comply with school sign-in procedures. When needing to pick your child up early from school please come to the office and sign them out in the “Student Early Leavers” register. A printed early slip will be provided, and you can then collect your child from their classroom.
CHANGE OF AFTERNOON ARRANGEMENTS
If the home time arrangements change for your child, it would be very much appreciated if a phone call, to the office, could be made by 2pm. This enables us, to ensure that, the message will get to your child before the afternoon bell time.
CHANGE OF STUDENT DETAILS - IMPORTANT
It is important that the school have correct student contact details incase of an emergency, including residential address, parent/carer email, phone numbers and any additional emergency contacts. If you wish to check your student details, or wish to make any changes, please phone the office for assistance. PH - 6372 2036
