Father's Day Bricks & Breakfast:On Wednesday MPS hosted their annual Fathers Day Breakfast. This year we introduced a new event with Bricks and Breakfast.
The classrooms were bustling with busy builders and smiling faces, all in celebration of our amazing Dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and all those special father figures.
A huge thank you to all of the MPS staff who opened their classrooms, helped set up and all of the organisation that goes into such an excellent event.
Special thank you to our P&C and all of our chef extraordinaires who volunteered their time to BBQ our breakfast delights. Thanks to the Lions Club for providing the large BBQ and also Dave from Fox Express for supplying much needed coffee.
Keep your eyes peeled for further Fathering Project communication and events, coming soon to MPS!
Lastly, thank you to all of our wonderful MPS Father figures who came along to build, create and inspire with their families. Happy Fathers Day to all celebrating this Sunday.

School Boys Cricket: Congratulations! It was another successful outing for Mudgee PS in the boys PSSA cricket competition on Tuesday, defeating Cooerwull Public School in Lithgow by nine wickets. Cooerwull PS got off to a flying start - 0-31 after four overs. However, Freddy Stevens was able to make the vital breakthrough and suddenly, the wickets tumbled. Two wickets in an over by Jake Colley (2-7) and several more by others in the following overs saw Cooerwull fall to 7/42. The star with the ball was Austen Wright. Austen took 3-4 from eight balls to help dismiss Cooerwull for 52.
Like they did with the bat, Cooerwull got off to a great start by taking a wicket off the first ball of our innings. It was short lived though as Jake and George Anderson showed their batting experience, and together, put on an unbeaten 54-run partnership for the second wicket. George top scoring with 24 not out and Jake making 14 not out.
The win sees us move into the semi-final of the Western Region section of the state-wide competition. An opponent and date for the semi-final has yet to be determined.
Thank you to the parents for coming and supporting the students and for Ian Tilmouth for travelling on the bus. We recieved a very kind letter congratulating our school from the opposing team coordinator - "Thanks and congrats on your well-deserved win. I just thought I'd email you to mention how impressed I was with the teams sportsmanship. They did Mudgee PS proud and Good Luck in the next round. - Benjamin Foster (Cooerwull Public School)
Tournament of Minds Success: Two Mudgee Public Teams were victorious at the Western Region Tournament of Minds competition held at Orange on Sunday. The team members in Language Literature are; Henry Thomson, Poppy Waugh, Ziggy Gordon, Chloe Clarkson, Oscar Clay, George Anderson and Toby Williams. The Social Science team is made up of Freddy Stevens, Charlie French, Sam Walker, Lucia Clarkson, Ayla Coupe, Mollie Wallace and Jake Colley.
These two teams now head to the UNI Of NSW in Sydney to compete in the NSW State Finals next weekend. Tournament of Minds is a problem-solving activity where students are required to solve a challenge by creating a 10-minute performance that addresses all specified criteria. At the State Final the teams will only have 3 hours to create a solution. These teams have worked very hard during school time and after school hours to prepare for this event. We wish both teams success in Sydney and congratulate them on their wonderful achievements so far.
Celebrating the Jolly Gym Transition to School program: We're thrilled to wrap up six weeks of our Jolly Gym Transition to School program on a positive note! Our 2024 Kindergarten students have embraced a journey of fun and learning, and we're excited to share the wonderful moments from the program's conclusion.
The final session was very exciting, with parents joining us to witness the progress their children have made and joined in on the fun!
We're especially grateful for the participation of some of next year's Year 6 buddies who helped the program each week.
We're excited to announce the upcoming Beginner's Program starting in Week 3 of next term, which is designed to guide our young learners as they take their first steps into formal education at Mudgee Public School. Keep an eye on the newsletter and our Facebook page for registration details.

Road & Safety Improvements around Mudgee schools: This is a Road Safety Survey for schools in Mudgee initiated by Crossley Transport Planning who have been engaged by Mid-Western Regional Council to look at traffic issues on the streets surrounding our school.. The purpose of this survey is to understand how you travel to/from school and the current issues or challenges.
We are sending this survey Mudgee Public School and Mudgee High School to identify and develop opportunities to support better connectivity, traffic operations and improve road safety.
SAS Appreciation Week: Next week is SAS (School Administrative and Support) Staff Appreciation week. During this SAS Appreciation Week, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible administrative staff of Mudgee Public School who tirelessly contribute to the smooth functioning of our educational institutions. Your dedication and hard work behind the scenes (and often front and centre) does not go unnoticed. From managing resources, to ensuring a safe and organised environment for students and teachers alike, you play a vital role in creating an atmosphere that makes Mudgee PS so special. Your commitment to efficiency, kindness, and problem-solving does not only streamline operations but also creates a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for everyone. Thank you for being the unsung heroes who make a significant difference in the education of our students. Your efforts are truly valued and celebrated this week and every week.
Check-in Assessment for Year 6: The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.
The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.
The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 6 students during Weeks 8-10
All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing assessment.
PCYC Staff Required: Our before and after school care service run by PCYC are always on the lookout for staff, particularly casuals and over the holidays. Some people may be thinking, "I'd love to, but I have to look after my own children" In the holidays if you work with PCYC and your own children are enrolled in the service there is a considerable discount of 80% on top of the Child Care Subsidy.
Contact the manager via email if this is something that interests you.
Second Deputy Principal Update: The EOI to backfill Annika Elmore at Cassilis has been unsuccessful and has been readvertised, meaning Annika will not start here this term and is likely to arrive some time in Term 4. When we ran our DP EOI process here which included Daniel Hurd (our director) and Julie Tito, part of this process saw two staff members here placed on the eligibility list - Liesel Meers and Danielle George. This means they can relieve in these roles throughout 2023 and 2024 should the need arise. Congratulations to you both.
Mrs Meers will therefore act in the Second Deputy Principal position from Week 8 this term on and into next term. Mrs Meers will align with the primary side of the school, and Mrs O'Hara will align with the K-2 side of the school.
Mrs O'Brien Returns: Hooray - Next week, we will also welcome back Mrs O'Brien - 3 days per week. We are so excited to have Mrs O'Brien back and she can't wait to work with you all again. This will be a big step for Jen moving back into work life whilst still focussing heavily on her health (Doctors and my orders too!). For the rest of the term, Mrs O'Brien will act in a bit of a hybrid role which will predominantly be APCI Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, along with supporting some student wellbeing across the school. Miss Hopkins will continue teaching 6J and is doing a fabulous job with this class.
Mrs Knott: It is with mixed emotions that I inform you that Christy Knott will be leaving us at the end of this term as her husband has secured a job in Western Australia. Mrs Knott does such incredible as SLSO working with Class SM and the students in the Support Unit. All the best to Mrs Knott and thank you for your service to our students.
Mrs Orth Maternity Leave: Today will be Mrs Chloe Orth's last day as she heads off onto her maternity leave. Mrs Orth is a SLSO who works predominantly with the Kindergarten team as well as across K-2. Mrs Orth, we wish you all the very best and can't wait to welcome you back with your new addition to the family. Thanks for all your work with the Kindy students, teachers and beyond :)
New Teacher - Kate Hobson
We have secured another fabulous temporary teacher by the name of Mrs Kate Hobson who is a permanent teacher at Kelso Public School. Kate is moving back to Mudgee over the holidays and will join us from Weeks 3- 10 next term and it is highly likely she will perform some sort of Learning Support role - Stay tuned and welcome, Mrs Hobson.
Mrs Smith on Leave: Mrs Smith will be on long service leave from next week until the rest of the term.

Your children will be enjoying these books very soon! If you did have to re-order something due to it being out of stock, they should arrive sometime next week. A MASSIVE thanks to Emma Minnards, Belinda Littley, Myff Clarke and Mrs Tuit who helped out with the book sales during the week. Your help was very much appreciated!
Well done to everyone who dressed up for Book Week! Your costumes looked great! More images can be found on the MPS Facebook site (3) Facebook

Class Corner - 3D
3D tackles Mathematics - 3D has had a busy term so far in Mathematics. We are doing a Number Talk each day to improve our mental working out of problems and being able to explain how we came up with an answer. Miss Donnelly is more concerned about the 'how' rather than the answer. We worked on counting on and off the decade and played Skip Count Forwards to reinforce this concept. Some were a bit trickier than others!
This week we have been using pan balances to work out if objects are more than, about or less than a kilogram. We had to estimate first before we were allowed to weigh the objects. Some of our estimations were spot on while others were a little bit off. Do you know how many apples are needed to balance a one-kilogram weight? 3D students do as this was our task on Tuesday and Wednesday. We also did the same for bananas, potatoes, oranges and multilink blocks.

Class Corner - JC
This Term in JC we have been exploring space in Science, visiting other countries in Geography, talked about how we can look after ourselves in PDH, and we've had Cass come and do some boxing with us each Thursday. We had some of our father figures attend Lego building in our room for the Bricks and Breaky session which was very fun. In the coming weeks our Year 6 students will complete some transition to MHS.
For parent/carers wishing to access the PCYC After School Care provided at Mudgee Public School, please visit the website for further information https://pcycoosh.org.au/
SCHOOL VISITOR CHECK-IN and PICKING UP YOUR CHILD EARLY
ALL VISITORS (parents/carers, volunteers and contractors including cleaners) must use School Visitor Check-in to comply with school sign-in procedures. When needing to pick your child up early from school please come to the office and sign them out in the “Student Early Leavers” register. A printed early slip will be provided, and you can then collect your child from their classroom.
