Sports Update
Rugby Union - On Wednesday MPS sent a group of talented boys and girls over to Dubbo to play in the Brian Palmer Knockout. The boys team captained by Nate Taylor, quickly developed a real 'Rugby mind' and played with determination, cleaning out rucks and running the ball hard against their opponents. The girls team captained by Meilana Tavita, played a brilliant running style Rugby 7s game. They showed their strength and perseverance in each game they played. Both teams managed to secure a win and got to sing their team song! Unfortunately, neither team will progress to the next round but played with tremendous sportsmanship, making Mr Smith, Mrs Baddock and all parents present very proud! All students played with pride and enjoyed trying Rugby Union, for many their first ever experience with the sport. Congratulations on a fantastic display of sportsmanship and trying something new. We are very proud of you all!
Mr Smith and Mrs Baddock
Basketball - On Thursday 27th Of May our boys basketball team had their first game of the PSSA knockout against Gulgong Public School.
We have had a few training runs and the boys showed their skills on the court. We took away the win 42 to 6. Tyler O’Brien was top scorer for the game on 10 points, followed closely by Felix Smith and Hunter McGrath both with 8 points each. All of the boys showed fantastic sportsmanship and are excited for our next round game against Cowra Public School.

Class Spotlight -2T
During Writing lessons, 2T students have worked hard to try and build suspense in their work. We have been experimenting with new vocabulary and are working hard to enhance our writing. Watch the videos to listen to some examples of writing. These activities were writing tasks based upon two texts we had read - 'Grandpa Green' by Jane Smith and 'The Treasure Box' by Margaret Wild.
In Art lessons, we have discussed lines, shapes and colour and how these enhance and impact our artworks. Students have categorised shapes as either geometric or organic and are creating an artwork with the initial of their first name. They are effectively experimenting with lines, shapes and colour to make up the background of their work.

Class Spotlight - 3C
Over the last week, 3C has spent some time recognising the significance of Sorry Day (26th May) and Reconciliation Week (27th May -3rd June). We immersed ourselves in meaningful discussions and acknowledged the importance of specific events during this week. We embraced many opportunities to learn and listen to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People’s voices through children’s literature, songs and moving speeches. It has been a chance for us to find out how we can contribute towards the goal of achieving reconciliation in Australia as we build connections and learn to truly value the histories, cultures and futures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
In History, 3C have also been learning about international celebrations. We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Japan’s Cherry Blossom Festival (Hanami). Held every spring, families enjoy a picnic under the beautiful blossoming cherry trees. We were so inspired by the beauty of this event that we created a landscape piece in Art. This painting involved many steps but we are very pleased with the final result!

Meet the Staff - Support Unit SLSOs
Our current Support Unit SLSOs are Sharon Murray in class JC, Janice Meers and Sarah McMahon in class MW, Rhonda Smith in class LS, Lisa Fowler in class LL, Kyie Marshall in class SM and Glenda Clarkson in class TT. These ladies support our students with additional learning and support needs both in the classroom and the playground. Their work ensures all of our students have a familiar, warm and caring person to seek assistance from throughout the school day. Our SLSOs play an essential role in supporting our students academically, socially and emotionally. They go above and beyond to care for our students not just in the Support Unit but ALL students at Mudgee Public School. Our Support Unit SLSOs are constantly undertaking professional learning in their own time to ensure they are up to date in all areas of best practice, whether that is strategies for supporting learning academic learning challenges, approaches to supporting social and emotional learning needs or practices that involve the personal care needs of our students. Our teachers are extremely grateful to our SLSOs for the work they do for the children in our care.

Collection for Equipment
Do you throw away hundreds of bread bags and tags every year? You can support the school, and a great cause, by sending your bags and tags to school for recycling.
Mudgee Public School have almost filled our first box of bread bags! Thankyou for all those people bringing in their bread bags from home. Reminder that we only have until the 25th June to collect as many as we can to get some great new sports equipment. All bread bags are accepted.
ALL BREAD TAGS will be collected and go to support a company called Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs. The plastic is recycled in SA to supply wheelchairs in South Africa. Click on the link below to see more about this great cause https://ozbreadtagsforwheelchairs.org.au/ Collection boxes are available at breakfast club and in the front office to deposit your tags.
